Gigabyte X299X - Catalina Support

I'm very pleased with the X299 SAGE/10G ....
Just curious about Mobo with Thunderbolt, ethernet 10G on board with support for 256 GB of RAM and dual GPUs for a smaller case.

I saw your mobo and the Asrock X299 Creator with maybe a simpler 10G implementation (not sure).

I did have a SAGE too and was very pleased with its functionality and compatibility, a colleague of mine was looking for a new computer, and he insisted on buying my SAGE, so I ended up just selling it to him, but overall very happy. I hammered the thing and didn't flinch!.

Can't speak for the ASRock since I haven't tried it but looks solid, and with AQ 107 10Gb built-in, that sure gives some good long time compatibility .

I have an AMD build with ASRock creators and a 3900X and works real nice on 10.15, so I'm guessing the Intel part must be just as good on X299.

So are you implying that you have a working C621 machine running with OC?? My next project was to move onto a C621 chipset with a W3175X or a W3265 (the latter in order to be able to move up to 1,5TB RAM, but still not decided yet). It sucks they won't pursue full functionality of NVRAM tbh, but at least they would consider contribute..

Perhaps "the way" on X299 and C621 chipsets is still indeed Clover. So far I have not experienced many issues with the current build, but like I said, I want to move forward.

The one thing I dono't understand is why vendors would lock their BIOS to 192GB RAM on their new Dominus and Aorus boards while for instance the W3175X data sheet clearly shows the CPU can handle up to 512GB RAM and the C621 chipset is capable of 1,5TB... For the €1000+ I think is way over the top. I think the Pro WS C621-64L SAGE/10G is a better choice.

For OC, in a multi-boot environment, because of the NVRAM that my Sage motherboard has, OC booting can be problematic. Does it boot? Yes, but it may always automatically boot into Windows, as opposed to what I want it to boot to. Again, I would refer you to the URL I posted earlier, because it explains this issue with OC very well.

Now, a Gigabyte motherboard may or may not have this issue. Also if you only boot one version of macOS, no problem. But let's say you boot Mojave and Catalina, or maybe you also have Windows or Linux that you need to boot into from time to time. If you find you can't control your booting preference with OC, NVRAM incompatibilities could explain why.

My system boots fine on either OC (NDK version) or Clover. Thunderbolt, and Hot Plug works as well, so I'm good. Just trying to make you aware that there might be an issue with your NVRAM implementation on your board, that's all.

lol, I understood the first time round, I also went into the link and saw everything that was said by users and admin. It could or could not be a problem for GB boards, who knows . So far I'm not moving to OC if the NVRAM issue can't be solved. I have few machines that run triple boot and loosing that option would be a real issue.

The reason I was asking is that you mentioned something about C621, which is not what you are running with (from your build description) and since my next project would be an LGA 3647 socket I was wondering perhaps you could light some intel on how this machines work and what possible problems I might face along the way. As I can see you have a 2066 chipset, that is where my confusion might come from.

Be aware - none of the refreshed Cascade Lake X boards with 48 PCIe-lanes (with 109xx CPU´s) is able to boot Mojave/Catalina. All the 109xx CPU´s are fine, but sad to say not the new boards.

I don't know about MSI X299 Pro but I can tell you that Prime X299 Deluxe 2 doesn't need the patch. I've had two builds and both worked without any fancy DSDT patching.
