In mid-2000s when Apple switched to x86 arch, I heard that they considered AMD but were in doubt about AMD' ability to meet demand and supply the required qtys in a timely manner. At that time, AMD had plans to be a fabless company and this rose the doubt with Apple.

The trouble with ARM is a whole industry of software houses will have to rebuild and recompile their apps. Not trivial when you look at the big outfits.

True, Apple may provide a new Rosetta to handle the changeover, but that in itself would be a huge undertaking. Nothing like as easy as back in 2005/6 when the number of big apps was a lot less.

Why give yourself the headache?

True and ARMs still can’t really run Windows10 yet so there is still a lot to be done.

Good point. My kid's school here had a whole IT suite of iMacs, but had so many problems (not sure what) they BootCamped the lot and ran them as Windows machines ... It was a bit surreal walking in and seeing all these Macs, thinking to myself "Wow, impressive!" and then realising they were all running Windows.
