Gigabyte Z390 M Gaming build with working NVRAM

thanks a lot!

I was wondering is there some stuff I can turn off in here perhaps. stuff that I'm not using like I only have a Samsung 970 M2 drive I done thing that I need the TRIM iokit patch do I?

Turn off where? In config.plist? Sure, if you don't need Trim, delete it.

Honestly what board would you say is the most stable that is currently out there for the z390? I don't really care about thunderbolt. and I have a apple compatible BT wifi card. SideCar would be nice but not a deal breaker.

this idle locking up thing is driving me nuts though getting the feeling that I'm gonna have to get rid of this 5700XT.

is a shame cause when it runs the performance is great. But if I let it sit it will lock up. really struggling. But I need to find a solution that is just 100% percent stable. my ASUS TUF z390 works great with the VEGA 64 under iMac Pro 1,1.

it looks like it happens at about the 5 minute mark of being idle. I noticed something interesting this time I left the intel power gadget open and loot what happened right before it froze up.

Trying it again with the activity monitor open it looks like there is some photos app stuff updating in the BG. IMG_4414.jpeg

UPDATE: so yeah it seems to freeze at about the 5 minute mark every time I leave it idle. you can see that the power usage kicked up again there to not as dramatically this time.

This time I had the activity monitor open as well:

and again 5 minutes after idle:

not sure the photos deamon is using the most CPU and there is a corresponding spike on the GPU. it is weird.

Ok So I switched the Video cards in the 2 systems and the other system locked up at the 5 minute mark as well so it is defiantly the video card. I guess I will just have to find something else to use. Sucks cause I have see other people using and getting it to work.

One thinking interesting @pastrychef using your EFI Folder the card gets referred to as (Slot 0) but when it is in my system it gets referred to as (Built-In) do you know why? also I noticed that on my system the intel power gadget tracks the DRAM POWER but not on the one using your EFI Folder

ok I think I have stumbled onto something. I added:
darkwake=0 & slide=0

to the boot arguments as well and it seems that the older i9 with the 5700xt in it is running fine now.

the whole list of suggested ones was: dart=0 darkwake=0 slide=0 agdpmod=pikera

I only had:
dart=0 & agdpmod=pikera

gonna let them both idle all night and see if either one is locked up in the morning.
