[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Could those with working native NVRAM (under Clover) please tell me which versions of the following files you are using? I'm assuming you're all running 19,1 SMBIOS
FwRuntimeServices.efi
OcQuirks
SSDT-NVRAM

I've spent over a day trying to get this working without any luck
I can unlock the BIOS register without any problem, but I either get a lock up after a string of +++++++ characters at the top of the screen or a panic screen ending In "Memory Panic Stackshot Succeeded ** Bytes Traced 14160 ** Attempting System Restart .... Mach Reboot"

Many thanks guys

I don't what's wrong, but seems I don't success when I do the test, I carefully followed your procedure very carefully and checked nothing doing wrong. When I do the test, after reboot, I don't get "TestVar Hello" message. The attached pictures are
1. I check the 0x5c1 value
2. reboot after the doing "sudo nvram TestVar=Hello"

  • Are you using Clover or OpenCore?
  • Have you copied SSDT-NVRAM.aml into the appropriate ACPI folder?

Thanks a LOT for your help, just clarifying:
I keep both:

SSDT-UIAC-DESIGNARE-Z390-V7
SSDT-UIAC-DESIGNARE-Z390-FD-DEFINE-R5

in my folder, as the latter is just further modification on the first right?

Current EFI folder, just for checking:

We can only use one SSDT-UIAC-... at a time! In your case it is necessary to delete SSDT-UIAC-DESIGNARE-Z390-V7.aml (or set the Enabled property to False in the OpenCore config.plist).

Side Question: Since i'll be using my Metric Halo audio interface for everything audio related, should i just go ahead and remove AppleALC from kexts and plist (and its boot-arg as well)? Thinking i could have one less thing that can go wrong.
AppleALC is awesome and there's no need to remove it. It allows the on-board Realtek ALC-1220VB to function properly. The Designare Z390 has a very good headphone DAC/Amp built-in that powers the audio ports. It would be a shame not to use it.

Hey guys

I am just trying to do a clean Catalina install. I have done everything through mini guide and I got Catalina installed.I have a problem in step 3: Post installation. After part that says to unncheck "wake for network access" I reboot the computer and it doesn't boot again.
I get following error:

Even if I try to boot it with Clover on my USB key I get same error.

Can anybody help me?

Cheers!
Please try this:
  • First, perform a CMOS Reset by shorting two small pins on the motherboard with a flat-head screwdriver. Please see the Designare Owner's Manual for the procedure. This procedure might seem scary at first, but it's quite okay and safe.
    • This will force the system to retrain the memory map.
    • This will also reset all BIOS (UEFI firmware) parameters to factory defaults, so please set them all again starting with Load Optimized Defaults.
  • Now try to boot from internal SSD.
    • If this still fails, try booting from USB flash disk (be sure to press F12 during BIOS Splash Screen to enter the BIOS Boot Menu).
If you still have trouble, please let us know.

Even before I asked for help I tried the whole installation again (I still posted the question because I suspected the same is going to happen). The only difference was that I used newer Clover configurator (5.9.3.0 instead 5.8.0.0) and it's working. I haven't done CMOS reset. Don't know what's the reason for this but the main thing is that's working. Thanks for your quick anwser and help!

Cheers!

I have to agree with our esteemed leader here. The builtin DAC/amp is quite usable.

That's not going to help Casey :(. I'm fully aware of the memory allocation error and how to get out of it, it's happened to me dozens of times while attempting to set up native NVRAM. It also sets the BIOS switch needed back to locked every time :(

That might be the case for standard music playback/ casual uses. In my case though nothing will be connected on the onboard DAC. On MacOS my MetricHalo ULN-2 3d will be serving as the DAC/Audio interface exclusively.

Since ALC is considered so stable though I see no reason to remove it entirely

Yeah, it's not for pro recording purposes, but I was surprised by the quality. And that's from someone using a ULN-8/3D (and an AKG712 Pro headphone, I only use the hp out of the builtin audio for the occasional Spotify/Youtube playback)
