[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

This is a brilliant guide! Thank you so much for this. I read it through a feel times as well as the original Mojave guide. However, I have a question regarding the Fresh Catalina Install: I noticed this mini guide does not include the post MultiBeast steps, does that mean it is safe to skip this or should I follow the post Multibeast install from the Mojave guide?
Another the question, on the Clover customize screenshot, the UEFI Drivers is closed, do I need to uncheck any of the sub items or leave as it is?
Apologize if this sound dumb, this is gonna be my first Vanilla install. Parts are arriving this week :)
Thank you!

Hi Guys.

I fixed the time issue with Mojave install, I fixed the hang on 2 mins remaining to install.

I now get this kernal panic see image below, any ideas welcome

Hi CaseySJ,

thanks for your reply; see my answers below:

  • Fenvi is plugged into the bottom short slot.
  • The antennas are connected.
  • I have SSDT-DESIGNARE-Z390-NO-CNVW.aml in the CLOVER/ACPI/patched folder.
The screenshot is here:

This looks okay to me. However your Locale is ETSI and Country Code is X3. Not sure which region/country you're in, so cannot tell if these are okay. If WiFi problem persists, please try a CMOS Reset (see instructions in Designare user manual) and configure BIOS parameters again.

Hello @Lucashaas91
  • For the Catalina Mini-Guide, post-installation is merely the process of copying EFI Folder from USB install disk to Catalina SSD. That's it! No additional steps required.
  • On the Clover "customize" page, leave everything else as-is. All the drivers you need are in the ZIP file attached to the Catalina Mini-Guide.
Good luck with the build!

Hi Guys.

This screenshot shows the last part of the kernel panic log. If you take a video with your smart phone, you can move up a few frames until you see the end of the boot log and the beginning of the kernel panic. If you can grab a couple of screenshots of that region, it might provide a clue.

Thanks for the advice @CaseySJ ! But now that I rebooted, I can't access anymore neither to the EFI neither to the .plit file. I'm blocked inside the clover menu.. Do I have to retry the process adding the "-1" modification ?

What do you mean by “blocked inside the Clover menu”? Does the Clover menu appear? Note that enabling the -1 checkbox will bypass the Clover Boot Menu and go straight to the Apple logo (boot process), but this can be interrupted by pressing any key before the Apple logo appears.

Ok thanks for all your help, I now have a working copy of Mojave, just need to trouble shoot now and test out !

Is there some weirdness with my gpu? I have dual Asus VN248 monitors. I only have two cables long enough for my setup: 1 HMDI and 1 DVI to HDMI. When I used that, every other time the monitors would never wake up, there were frequent crashes on startup, and once booted the DVI to HDMI monitor (whichever, I tried both) would be magenta. When I went solo monitor, things got faster and more stable. I have a short DP cable which I tried (instead of DVI to HDMI). Once again I got crashing and fits. Finally, I went solo monitor until the system booted, then plugged in and connected the DP monitor, and that worked, and continues to usually work throughout restarts. However, after a cold start, often neither monitor will come on. I'm hoping that if I get two cables that match things will work better.
I'm still worried about whether I have a gpu problem or what. As of now, if I shut down and then start, everything boots fine. However, if I have to "RESTART" for any reason, the monitors won't come on at all, and I have to force a shutdown, go into the bios, and start over from there. Any ideas?

My country is Germany. I have reset CMOS but still no luck.
Thanks a lot for the suggestion anyway.
