It's amazing that this machine is still upgradable to MacOS Catalina and runs fairly well.

I have very similar hardware as yours. Are there many tweaks needed to get yours working? Mine is EP45-UD3L/Q9550/9800GT. Please share your tweaks. Thanks.

You want to run Catalina on your system? Then first replace your graphics card with a Metal supported card like an old GTX 760 / GTX 770. Your 9800 GT lacks Metal support so it won't work properly with Mojave and Catalina.

Thanks. I'll look for a Metal compatible graphics card. I haven't upgraded mine; now stuck on Yosemite.

Few tips though.
1. Use iMac 14,2 SMBIOS
2. Try installing on SSD instead of HDD, it will make things a lot easier.
3. Make sure to have APFS.efi file in your clover/driver64 folder.
4. Most importantly, after installing MacOS Catalina, replace com.apple.telemetry.plugin file with the one from High Sierra, otherwise your machine will just keep on rebooting.
5. 32bit Apps don't run on MacOS Catalina.
Good Luck.

Thanks for the tips.

Can you share you EFI folder and com.apple.telemetry.plugin ?

Thank you.

Attached my EFI folder for Mojave 10.14.6. The folder includes patched dsdt and config.plist edited to get proper power management. Do make sure to set your own SMBIOS. In addtion, SSDT file to disable PCIE 1 slot is also included outside of EFI folder.

As for com.apple.telemetry.plugin, deleting that file from the existing folder should allow you to boot into MacOS Mojave or Catalina.
