[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Hello MISTER @casey !!
First of all, merry Christmas !
You said you have an eGPU connected to one of the TB3 ports. I have one, too. But I don't see in the menu bar the connection-disconnection icon for this eGPU. Do you have it ?
Furthermore, you note the need, with an MSI 5700, to install from iGPU. This is it confirmed, or can we still try the installation from this discret (because my friend has a processor without iGPU (9900KF) ?
And you, do you have a Sapphire?
Thank You !!
Unfortunately, eGPUs do not work 100%. Specifically:
  • CSM Support must be enabled.
  • eGPU must be connected and powered up before booting into macOS.
  • Thunderbolt hot-plug SSDT must be removed.
  • The connect/disconnect icon will appear momentarily and then disappear.
Despite all this, the eGPU itself will work.

@CaseySJ long time lurker but first time poster... I spent a lot of time on the NVRAM problem last night, but this morning I had a breakthrough. for our Z390 boards, nvram doesn't seem to be broken at all, but the default setting in the config.plist DisableVariableWrite seems to be = YES - I set this to NO, restarted, and was able to nvram -c via terminal and other stuff I wasn't able to do before. Now OC retains boot device preferences, and I can stop fidgeting. Hope this helps somebody else.
Hello @iratelizard

Welcome to the forum! Are you using the modified DSDT that is included in the Experimental OpenCore Mini-Guide?

Hi Casey, long time no see, hope you all are having a wonderful Christmas.

I had this little issue that wasn't really annoying but now it has become something that I need to look into.

Got some audio dropouts here and there, with the usb connection which it seems to be overloading.

I looked into console and I got this, maybe you can help me figure out because I don't have this problem on Windows.

From time to time audio goes out for a millisecond, little glitches, and sometimes I have to restart completely the sound card

Standard install from last time, always had this issue, no modification to clover, SSDTs or kexts, maybe you have an idea.
Hello @xanderevo

Happy holidays!

My first suggestion would be to replace the KGP FakeSMC kexts and replace them with VirtualSMC. There's a guide here:

In your case, the kexts to be deleted are FakeSMC, ACPISensors, CPUSensors, GPUSensors, LPCSensors, SMMSensors. These should be delete from both /Library/Extensions and CLOVER/kexts/Other.

Thank you. Installation worked flawless. Tablet is working fine when tethered but lags when connected via bluetooth which makes it unusable. With my Macbook it´s fine so I blame the FENVI... It turned out to be the fault of the buggy wacom firmware. There is a thread over at the wacom Europe Forums which exactly describes the laggy and sluggish feeling of the pen connected via BT when using another BT device. In my case I use an apple BT keyboard and mouse. It has something to do with the BT stack and the order of the device pairing. When I switch off my mouse tablet is working great via BT.

The, The Wacom is VERY buggy on BT. don't matter if you real Mac or a Hack. Only the older models with no BT but there own dongle are working ok. I keep it with a cable, then it works great.

it is a shame that Wacom cannot produce working drivers...

@CaseySJ or anyone knowledgeable. I'm aware we have different boards but most of this thread is educational across the board so I come back here often.

Did anyone lose SATA when after your Catalina update? I get a panic/reboot if any of my SATA ports are enabled, even the empty ones. AHCI is fine to be on. I've tried moving my Mojave AppleAHCIPort to L/E and changing the version number to supersede the one in S/L/E but no luck there. I've tried in Kext/Other (I'm on Opencore but it's the same behavior same behavior as Clover).

I got it going once by adding AHCIPortHotplug to L/E via Hackintool but when I tried to repeat the process I got no joy.

Im going to keep searching but if there's a guide or nuance I'm missing feel free to drop a line. I'm on day 3. Happy Holidays y'all.

Also if you've seen this post on other threads then my apologies.
I've not seen this problem reported after Catalina update. Are you referring to SATA hot plug?

Can I use your guide with I9 9900KF? It does not have IGPU but I did not found other guide. What should I change in order to do it with Radeon RX 560 instead of internal graphic card(wich I do not have integrated in CPU).
If you're installing Catalina, you may follow the Catalina Mini-Guide with your RX 560.

Hello all, I'm trying to install Mojave in my new Hackintosh but the 2nd phase of the installation freezes at the beginning of the progressing bar (About 15 minutes stays like that). In the tuto of CaseyCS I wrote that they could be matters with the Samsung Evo Plus and I've got a 970 Evo Plus NVME.M2. According to the tuto and other discussions in the forum, I have to upgrade it to make it work. But in the tuto I don't understand HOW to upgrade the samsung firmware. My SSD is plugged inside my case. Can I upgrade it from here or have I to unplugged it and use a different computer for this ? Could someone help me ?
Thank you very much !

You can upgrade it with the Samsung software on their site using windows

CaseySJ or really anyone who might know.

I'm curious about the "Unlocking the MSR 0xE2 Register in BIOS F8" that was posted a little while back. What is the purpose of unlocking this register? How does this pertain to FwRuntimeServices.efi and OcQuirks-4.efi?

When I tried to use the FwRuntimeServices.efi and OcQuirks-4.efi, my system simply Locked up at the initial boot sequence. I've not gone back and tried to troubleshoot this until today. I'm starting with educating myself first to some the reports of successfully using FwRuntimeServices.efi and OcQuirks-4.efi.

Thanks for any feedback.... happy holiday and and a wonderful new year.

Does anyone able to get Apple TV to work without have to disable IGPU please anyone?
If so please share your secret :|:|
Yes it works with iGPU enabled. We just add shikigva and shiki-id to Boot Arguments. Please search this thread for "shiki-id" by member "CaseySJ" to find the settings. Or click below.

You can create a self-booting USB disk that can update the firmware. Please see Samsung's instructions here:
