[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Using the Catalina Quick Install Guide Sidecar is working great. I also see some dithering but if you need another screen it works.
That's my impression of SideCar as well. It's not meant for critical work where color accuracy is required.

This is a really good start!
  • See that list of USB ports (IOReg)?
    View attachment 441410
  • Notice that HS01, HS02, HS08, HS13, HS14, and SS02 are missing?
  • That's because that the Designare Z390 SSDT (SSDT-UIAC-DESIGNARE-Z390-V7.aml) is still in effect. We have to remove that file from CLOVER/ACPI/patched.
  • Then add the 2 Catalina USB port-limit removal patches shown in Post #1 here. These patches are specified in Kernel & Kext Patches.
  • Save the file and reboot.
  • After the reboot, first thing you should do is run IORegistryExplorer and scroll down to XHC as you did before. You should have HS01 through HS14, and possibly SS01. But SS02 through SS07 might be missing.
    • Don't worry about that.
    • Insert a USB 2 device into each of the USB ports (not into the Type C port unless you have a Type-A to Type-C adapter or a real USB 2 Type C device).
    • Make a list of the USB 2 ports once again.
  • If ports SS01 through SS07 or SS08 are not shown under XHC, then modify your config.plist as follows:
    • Using Clover Configurator, simply add -uia_exclude_hs to Boot Arguments, like this:
      View attachment 441409
    • Save the file and reboot.
    • This will turn off all the HS ports in order to reveal all the missing SS ports.
    • After the reboot, run IORegistryExplorer again and scroll down to XHC. Notice that all the SS ports are now present.
  • If ports SS01 through SS07 or SS08 are shown, then insert a USB 3 device into each port (including the red ones) and make a list.
  • Now connect your USB C device into the USB C port and determine which port lights up.
    • Now eject the USB C device and insert it into the same USB C but flip the connector!
    • Does the same SS port light up, or does a different one light up?
  • Now edit the config.plist file again and delete the -uiac_exclude_hs boot argument. You may also delete (or check the Disable flag) the two USB Port Limit patches we added to config.plist --> Kernel and Kext Patches.

!AMAZING!
Everything is working already! My USB-C port is working
Reading my Pen drive 3.0 trough an adapter was (HS02) but putting the Sandisk SSD turned to (SS02)

I was able to skip the (-uia_exclude_hs) part, since all mthe ports was showing after delete the file.

Thanks! This is awesome!

This is my map updated, i still wasn't able to find some of the ports... dont know what that means.

And the Blue USB on the UP PANEL, does not show as SS07 under any cirscustance only as HS07 no matter the device. And its showing two new ports, USR1 and USR2.

Also, no change flipping the conector on USB-C, with the external SSD it was (SS02) and with the USB-A adapter was (HS02)

Attached are two files:
  • SSDT-UIAC-Z390M-GAMING.aml
    • Compiled version to be copied to CLOVER/ACPI/patched
  • SSDT-UIAC-Z390M-GAMING.dsl
    • Disassembled version to be used if you need to make any changes
The file ending in .aml is the ACPI Machine Language version. This file should be copied to CLOVER/ACPI/patched. The file ending in .dsl is the Disassembled ASL file. This file should be kept safe in your Documents or other suitable folder. It contains comments about each defined port and should be used when making changes. It can be compiled into .aml using MaciASL.

Ports that have been activated or disabled:

Port Location
HS01 Red USB 3 on rear
HS02 has been disabled USB-C on rear (will only work with USB 3 devices)
HS03 Left lower USB 3 on rear
HS04 Left upper USB 3 on rear
HS05 Right lower USB 3 on rear
HS06 Right upper USB 3 on rear
HS07 Blue USB port on right side of front panel
HS09 USB 2 in middle of front panel
HS10 USB 2 on left side of front panel
HS11 has been disabled Internal USB 2 header (it has 2 ports; this one is disabled)
HS12 Internal USB 2 header (Bluetooth)
SS01 Red USB 3 on rear
SS02 USB-C on rear (will only work with USB 3 devices)
SS03 Left lower USB 3 on rear
SS04 Left upper USB 3 on rear
SS05 Right lower USB 3 on rear
SS06 Right upper USB 3 on rear

These 15 ports are enabled. Please delete or disable the USB Port Limit patches in Kernel and Kext Patches before rebooting.

I am curious why SS07 is not working for you (the blue USB port on right side of front panel). It should work...

Thank you so much!

I am getting the wheel of death using the mini guide. I am able to boot twice but, after the second boot, the installer pops up, and than quits . I have a SATA and an NVMe drive on the system and get the same error.

Hardware: Gigabyte Designare Z390 board, 2TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus (upgraded firmware), MSI 5700 XT, i9-9900KF, DDR4-3200 XPG D41 RGB Memory. I was thinking about switching out the graphics card. Any other advice? I added -V to the config plist of your AMD external GPU plist and paste the error code . Any help advice would be appreciated. Thanks I am trying iMac Pro now (initially tried iMac 19,1 ).

Are you doing a fresh installation of Catalina or an in-place upgrade from Mojave to Catalina?

It’s a new install on a new system . Mac OS was never installed . Thanks

@CaseySJ Since the crash report was so long for Safari, I just copied to text edit file and attached it for Safari and some other apps. I’m assuming all these same items are causing my issues in the other apps not working too? Not sure way? Maybe, when I shutdown and installed other item to get on internet, caused an issue? Cause originally I was able to boot clover configurator; now I cannot. What should I do?
