[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

That's exactly what we tell users NOT to do! When the basic system is installed, a backup should be made right away. That serves as the Initial Baseline. Then we can start installing apps, drivers, and devices. And if something goes terribly wrong, we can immediately get back to the Initial Baseline and avoid or defer the problematic apps, drivers, and devices. And finally, when apps, drivers, and devices have been installed successfully, then we update the backup disk. That becomes our Operational Baseline.

This proves my point. Sorry to put you on the spot, but no one will ever feel the need to take PROACTIVE action. Human nature is such that we will wait for a crash before buying insurance (which is why governments force us to buy insurance).
  • Make a full bootable backup immediately after installing macOS.
  • Update the backup periodically when new apps, drivers, and devices have been installed and verified.
  • Update the backup immediately before updating macOS (such as from 10.15.1 to 10.15.2).
  • MacOS was not designed for DIY PCs so we resort to an unholy concoction of bootloaders, memory drivers, graphics drivers, audio drivers, network drivers, ACPI patches, custom SSDTs, dropping of OEM tables, silencing IRQ conflicts, injecting shiki and agdpmod arguments, and on and on.
  • This means anything can go wrong at any time.
  • Backups are not a theoretical nicety, but a crucial requirement.
Avid's Pro Tools might require a headless Platform ID such as 0x3E980003 with SMBIOS iMac19,1. If config-AMD-GPU.plist was used in post-installation, then it is already set up correctly. If you run Hackintool, the default opening window will identify:
  • Platform ID (check for 0x3E980003)
  • SMBIOS (check for iMac19,1)
  • VDA Decoder (check if this one is Fully Supported)
If anyone has Pro Tools running properly on 10.15.1 or 10.15.2, please let us know.
Just picked up an extra drive to do the back up. Will be the first thing i do tonight.

FYI: Pro tools is still not compatible with 10.15.x. It is anticipated that the next release will have support for catalina.

I have the Corsair H100i cooler and RM750 Corsair PSU

peripherals I have 3 separate monitors
24 in BenQ 1080p
27in 4K LG
32in 4K curve Samsung

I’m considering exchanging my nvme and 64gb ram just to make sure none are faultythey are still within period maybe even the board itself to lmao swap everything!!!!!!!! Lmfao I just want it to work

I did do english version of OS
and my iGPU settings in BIOS are set to "Enabled"
several pages ago, Casey strongly recommended that you do a windows installation to make sure all your hardware is functioning. have you done that? you don't need a windows 10 key to do an install, just to activate later if you decide to keep the installation. so just for troubleshooting purposes, find an 8gb usb drive, google for windows 10 create installation media, and follow the instructions. you'll end up with a bootable windows 10 installer. on one of the early screens (before installation begins) you'll be prompted for a windows install key. just click the option "I don't have a key". on the next page you will choose which version to install. choose windows 10 pro, although it really doesn't make much difference for troubleshooting purposes.

if windows doesn't install then you have hardware problems.

@CaseySJ,
I'm about to start my build with (tomorrow maybe friday) :
  1. i9 9900KS
  2. Z390 Designare
  3. 32gb 3200 TridentZ
  4. EVO 970 plus 500gb
  5. RX 5700 XT PowerColor (reference edition)
  6. PSU Corsair 1200HX

I already know that this CNVi card isnt compatible, but I would love to use the NGFF Key-E M.2 slot with a broadcom card that supports airdrop wifi bluetooth etc.. (I like to keep the project construction untouched)
Do you know any compatible M.2 slot card in mind as an indication?

Which memory driver should I use to replace the OsxAptioFix2Drv-free2000, since on another forum, there is a post saying that this driver could corrupt the mem or mobo and it is highly recommended not to use it (would be
FwRuntimeServices.efi and OcQuirks-4.efi the final solution for this motherboard?)

Last question, I can start from Catalina 10.15.1 for this build, or should I use 15.2?
Thanks in advance, this topic encouraged me to build this setup, I appreciate your patience and your dedication

Hey CaseySJ. Thank you, I did reset it but I think the Problem lies elsewhere. Look at the system Information. Manufacturer is Ericcson, Adress is: 00000000. Card is the Fenvi HB1200 with the standard Broadcom Chipset.

IORegistryExplorer does not list it:

Going through all of your Bluetooth & Address related posts to learn about a possible solution at the moment.

There's the problem right there...
  • We see 15 USB ports, but they are HS01 through HS14, and USR1.
  • HS refers to High Speed, also known as USB 2.0.
  • SS would refer to Super Speed or USB 3.0.
  • Not only are USB 3.0 ports missing, but USB port HS14 is still enabled. From the build guide in Post #1:
    Screen Shot 2019-12-11 at 12.39.27 PM.png
  • This means macOS is trying to use the on-board Intel Bluetooth.
Solution:
  • Please mount EFI partition of your Catalina SSD and check whether the following files are present:
    • CLOVER/ACPI/patched:
      • SSDT-UIAC-DESIGNARE-Z390-V7.aml
      • SSDT-DESIGNARE-Z390-NO-CNVW.aml
      • SSDT-EC.aml
    • CLOVER/kexts/Other:
      • USBInjectAll.kext
After copying any missing files, reboot and login. If Bluetooth works, run IORegistryExplorer once again and have another look at the XHC section to examine the difference.

So, since I've been a bad boy and didn't back up , maybe I can contribute a little something for n00bs like myself who are doing this for the first time with this setup.

I'm going to start from scratch again tonight and make my bootable backup immediately after setup/install is complete.

Here are some notes/questions I've made while doing this that may will help someone else.

32GB DIMMS don't work right out of the box with this instruction set.

In the initial post for setup, @CaseySJ mentioned to add shikigva=60 in post setup. Apparently, this is now part of Whatevergreen and should NOT be used, if you're using whatevergreen (will cause a kernel panic on boot if you do... happened to me).

In the final steps spoiler in the "Devices" section, it is written to enable ResetHDA, but it is not highlighted in the graphic.

In the Kernel and Kext Patches it is mentioned to disable three (3) of the USB Port limit entries. If you are installing 10.14.5 or later, you will have 4 of these. I disabled all 4 and it seemed to work (perhaps @CaseySJ can confirm this)

The SMBIOS screen now has a slightly different profile for the 19,1 iMac. (the BIOS version, release date and the firmware information is all different) Not sure this makes a difference, but I had originally manually entered what was in the graphic the first time I ran this, I am going to try and leave the default my second time around and see what happens. THIS IS ONLY IF YOU'RE INSTALLING 10.14.5 or later.

Because that Build Guide uses the version of CLOVER supplied with MultiBeast, the use of shikivga=60 was okay. Did the kernel panic occur with the supplied version of CLOVER or with a newer 5xxx?

There is the following, but I agree that the screenshot should be consistent with the earlier one.

New issue (this happened with the Ryzentosh I had before replacing motherboard and CPU too): as soon as the screen saver comes up, the system freeze and I need to force reboot everything. This does not happen if I force the screen saver through the system preferences. Any suggestions?

Hello @arthurmelo88,

NGFF Key E M.2 WiFi/BT cards do not work on this system because it's a Socket 1 CNVi slot rather than a general-purpose M.2 slot. More specifically, although the Intel Z390 Chipset has on-board WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5, the analog and digital circuits of WiFi/Bluetooth are split. The Z390 Chipset itself contains only the digital circuit. So where is the analog circuit? It is located on the module that is plugged into the CNVi slot, and is therefore hard-wired to its digital counterpart on the Z390 Chipset. So the CNVi slot and the Z390 Chipset are two pieces of a puzzle that must come together for the Intel Wireless-AC 9560 to work.

Bottom line: That socket will only accommodate an Intel CNVi module. Because macOS has no Intel WiFi/BT drivers, nothing we plug into that socket will work. Ergo, Fenvi.

Which memory driver should I use to replace the OsxAptioFix2Drv-free2000, since on another forum, there is a post saying that this driver could corrupt the mem or mobo and it is highly recommended not to use it (would be

Yes, that's correct.

You may start with either 10.15.1 or 10.15.2. Although I have not personally done a fresh installation with 10.15.2 (waiting for the weekend), others have been able to do it.

Good luck with the build and let us know how it goes! Be sure to check/update firmware on the Samsung 970 EVO Plus as mentioned in NOTE 5a at the top of Post #1.

I can check this later in the evening.

All: Is anyone experiencing Screen Saver issues?

It should not be related to your GPU.
  • Please post a screenshot of Clover Configurator --> Boot with your config.plist loaded. This will show the boot arguments currently in effect.
  • Which SMBIOS are you using? iMac19,1?

Thank you @CaseySJ for your help.

The beach ball issues are now gone after updating Lilu and Whatevergreen to the latest version (which were not available at the time that I upgraded to Catalina). This might be a coincidence as well though, I am just guessing. Happy that the issue is gone.

I'm using Macmini8,1. Is it safe to just change it to iMac19,1 and restart?
