Ok so, first post so please don't murder me. I have loosely filled out what kind of unit I gave, memory, graphics card etc...
This is my situation.
I was given an IMAC that had OS before Snow Leopard installed on it. Basically a really old machine. Well, I got the snow leopard disk, installed it and was good. I went on to download some updates and all was working well. I went to try and install El Capitan and this is where the problem started.
I got version 11.1.1 on the system. Somehow, the Apple site skipped to 11.1.4 as it was uploading. No idea how, not sure what happened...
What I do know is now, the machine is for all intensive purposes, dead.
I know this machine from the beginning wasn't gonna be some super computer but, I was gonna give it to my son to use to watch school stuff, write papers, watch movies, that sort of thing.
When I go to start the machine, it asks for the language, go to disk utility, install OSX again, (which is the 11.1.4), it will not install. I have wiped the drive, tried to go back before the 11.1.4 was even trying to install... Is there a route to completely erase the failed OSX Capitan and start over at Snow Leopard? I am not taking it to an Apple store to be charged 500 bucks... again, this is my fisr post, I am not a usual MAC user... any help is greatly appreciated. I have been working on this for about 10 days, I have tried to do IBOOT but I cant get that disk to eject so I can insert the snow leopard. If there is any way to do this, I am all ears. It would certainly be a great present for my son as his first computer. Thanks for any help.

Hi there. Check the back/base of the machine to get the model number. With that you can discover exactly which model it is. Without this info it's going to be hard for folk to offer appropriate help.

Go the model... attempting to post in original thread. If not possible, will post under. Thanks for the help!
