[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Because of limitations in USB power delivery, we should use powered hubs if we’re attaching a moderately large number of devices, particularly if they are daisy-chained. Also, all USB devices on a hub share the bandwidth of a single USB port, and that port can become saturated if enough devices transmit enough data concurrently.

The output from IORegistryExplorer can show us the USB complexity. Simply run this app and select “File —> Save As...” and upload the saved file.
Alrighty, so I've been at it for a bit now tweaking and testing things.

I needed to update some USB-releated files and settings that I missed from dragging my clover/kexts settings through multiple OS upgrades. Right now my USB seems to be working perfectly, so that's solved - user error.

I tried a BIOS downgrade from F8 to F7 but got the same thunderbolt 3 with UAD Apollo/Satellite audio gear issues. F7 seemed to also be a little slower on system performance benchmarks with the recommended default BIOS settings/tweaks. I wondered if F6 would make a difference, but got fed up with trying (ha) and went back to F8. I'm going to live with it until UAD drivers are updated and fully Catalina qualified and see if things change. Fingers crossed.

Thanks once again for all your help on this!

Please replace your config.plist with the attached version. I've given you new serial numbers so please do not change anything -- just plug-and-play. Let me know whether it makes any difference. Rename the file to config.plist.

I used this config and attempted to boot the installer. I'm still getting to the same screen when I have -v on it kicks over as if it's going to switch to the installer and doesn't get me there. It gives me a discolored Apple logo and progress bar. When I disable -v, it loads the Apple progress bar. But then, when it tries to kick back to graphics mode, it freezes on the next Apple logo after that.

I am going to try to follow the guide using my XFX Radeon RX 560 to see if that does any better. Any suggestions?

Ok update to new mini guide. I made it to the new install without any issues. System seems to be working great. Really snappy. I have 2 issues. 1 is major and 1 is minor. Major-anytime I install the Sapphire 5700XT it never boots to a screen I can actually view. I could possibly get in via Screen Sharing but I'm hesitant since the guide says "don't log into iCloud". Second, which is the fact that I can't set clover to auto boot from Catalina. I set it in clover configurator but it always come up with just three option preboot from fire vault /recovery and Catalina but no count down to auto boot. Any suggestions CaseySJ? I would like to also thank you for all your hard work. You are a very special person to do all this. Everyone with each individual issue. You sir/lady are some kinda special. I found a routine on another site but I'm not sure of it's quality. I'm not wanting to take the risk of quanity over quality. One last thing. I have 0 problems with MSI 580. It's killing me. I'm attaching my config.plist.

The config.plist that you posted is from the first phase of installation with the iGPU. As mentioned in the mini-guide, we need to replace this config.plist with a different one before installing the RX 5700 XT. Please have another look at Steps 4 and 5. If you have any questions about those steps, just let me know.

Please check which version of Clover Configurator you are using. We should use the latest one, which is 5.8.0.0. The two plist files in the Catalina mini-guide should perform a 3-second countdown. It's probably best to come back to this problem later. We should get the RX 5700 XT working first!

Male. :) Thanks!

Yes, the MSI RX 580 is a great card. Let's hope we can get the RX 5700 XT up and running. Please note that the two plist files in the mini-guide should not be modified in any way except for SMBIOS and RtVariables as indicated.

Once your system is up and running, only then should you consider making any kind of change to those files. And changes should only be made with Clover Configurator 5.8.0.0.

Have you been able to install Catalina using any means or methods so far? If not, I wonder if it makes sense to test memory and perhaps use a different target SSD. Could there be a hardware issue somewhere?

Have you been able to install Windows or Linux? It might be best to install either of those operating systems first to establish that the hardware components are in working order.

I created an OpenCore 0.5.3 config just yesterday, but alas FwRuntimeServices doesn't work, resulting in the dreaded Couldn't allocate runtime area error. The same Quirk(y) settings that we used to compile our own FwRuntimeServices and OcQuirks-4 do not work when specified in the OpenCore config.plist. This is disappointing because we shouldn't have to disable IGPU and fall back to iMacPro1,1.

Nevertheless, I'll continue to experiment with each new release until hopefully it works with both iGPU enabled and SMBIOS iMac19,1.

That's the strangest part of it all, and what I experienced on 0.5.2. OcQuirks, a port of OpenCore's boot quirks, works, but OpenCore itself does not.

I have not been able to get any method working. They all hang in some sort of area, and I had a working install and don't know what happened for kernel cache crash. Since then I have not been able to get any build method working. I have an EFI/config that gets me thru the same install that I did before and installs Catalina 10.15.1 completely. But, when I get into the Welcome Preboot, it freezes and goes grey screen after I select "setup later" for the icloud options.

I have not attempted to install Windows. But I suppose I could to see if it's the drives, although I bought another NVMe 970 regular not Plus, and had the same results on that. Do you believe it could be a memory issue or a hardware issue somewhere? If so, how could I diagnose which?

Any idea would could be causing the hang on welcome preboot? I select to skip iCloud setup. It switches to a grey screen, and then shuts down after a couple moments. I’ll try to install Windows and make sure that the hardware is in order, I suppose as well. Something had to have changed from when I originally had a successful install to now. I just don’t know what and I have tried different SSD’s
2 NVMe Samsung 970
1 WD 500GB SSD

Only other thing would be the RAM? I tried pulling and reseating 2 days ago. It’s being fully recognized in BIOS as well.

I think you stated that you had not explicitly updated the firmware on the Samsung EVO 970 Plus, but because you were able to get through the first two phases of macOS installation, you assumed it has the latest firmware.

So I would start there, with the Samsung 970 EVO Plus. If you look at NOTE 5a at the top of Post #1, there's an option to create a self-boot USB flash disk to check and update the EVO Plus firmware.

I don’t have the Plus model. I purchased the NVMe EVO 970 regular after seeing issues with firmware on the Plus. So I have 2 EVO 970 regulars.

The problem you're facing seems to be due to a bad memory fix driver in the CLOVER/drivers/UEFI folder. You will have to be able to mount the EFI partition of USB install disk and use a different driver such as:
  • OsxAptioFix2Drv-free2000.efi
or both of these files:
  • OcQuirks-4.efi
  • FwRuntimeServices.efi
Well I am going to share the Clover folder as required. Sir, please find the attachment and do the needful.

Thanks and will try to look for these drivers and try to boot from USB Drive If possible
