[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Just tried shikigva=16 , and can't play DRM content (Amazon Prime) as before in Safari, Firefox it's oK,

I'm using iGPU on, iMac19,1 SMBIOS and WEG 1.3.5. Mojave 10.14.6

I imagine it could even vary even across GPUs, but in my case I am on Catalina 10.15.1, not Mojave.

@SpikedBR would you be able to point me in the direction of the source of your working EFI? Or, tell me what to search to find where you found? :)

Sadly apparently I'm not allowed to talk about it, all the posts that I attached the files or mention the site or the author were censored...

But I have good news!

:headbang:

I just made a new 10.15.1 install, I kept everything from @CaseySJ's EFI but I overwrote his config.plist with the working one that I had and restarted, got a black screen then I remembered WEG, removed it and vualá, it is working now.

So in the end it is not a matter of MacOS version, the problem is something in config.plist, sadly pointing what exactly is out of my league but I attached the working one that I have.

IMPORTANT! Remember to open it in Clover Configurator and populate with SMBIOS serials before using it (I removed my numbers) and to remove WEG and Pikera bootflags if you have it.

I'm even using the OcQuirks-4 and FwRuntimeServices, apparently the MATS table in the ACPI section solved the booting problem also, good one @CaseySJ!

The only problem that I still have is that I can't boot the USB Stick with my iGPU, I get the damned black screen, so I need to use my Vega64 to install the system. This is going to be a problem because I was planning to sell it, maybe I'll buy a cheaper AMD to resolve this.

Finally someone succeeds with iGPU!! Good job. :)

Switching over to the RX 5700 XT will be tricky. It may be better to wait for 10.15.2 or follow parts of @SpikedBR's experience above.
I have been able to install Catalina just with the Preallocated and Aperture size of iGPU both set to 128, still can’t understand why tbh

I was able to get it running with the 5700 XT using someone else's EFI folder. I neglected to update the smbios though. I have already logged into iCloud. I read that that could cause me trouble as my Apple ID could be banned if it's recognized as running on a hackintosh. Is there any truth to this? Should I update it now or is the cat out of the bag already?

To everyone who downloaded the Catalina Mini-Guide ZIP file:
  • The config.plist is missing 2 important settings, both in the ACPI section. We need to drop two tables:
    • DMAR
    • MATS
  • Please do this manually as follows:
    View attachment 439211
  • Perform the 3 steps shown for both DMAR and MATS. MATS is the last one on the pop-up list.
  • The result should look like this:
    View attachment 439212
  • Save the file and reboot.
  • NOTE: Catalina 10.15.1 cannot be installed with the RX 5700 or RX 5700 XT. Use iGPU or alternative AMD GPU instead. When installation is complete, install the RX 5700 (XT) and it should be plug-and-play.
Finally:
  • The ZIP file in Catalina Mini-Guide has been updated.
  • Post 10821 has also been updated.

Thank you! This did the trick. That machine is up and running smoothly now!

There are just a handful of notable differences in this config.plist. Let me see if I can isolate the key ones. Will report back.

Feel free to post the config.plist from your USB install disk. The prerequisites for iGPU-based installation are:
  • No agdpmod=pikera argument
  • Framebuffer connector patches must be specified in Devices --> Properties, where:
    • Platform ID is set to 0x3E9B0007
    • Device ID is set to 0x3E9B
    • HDMI port is enabled at Index 3 (port 7) with BusID=0x04 and Type=HDMI
    • DP port at Index 1 (port 5) is changed to BusID=0x01
    • framebuffer-patch-enable is set to 0x01
  • WhateverGreen and Lilu are required
  • AMD GPU must be fully removed from the system
  • Connect monitor to HDMI port on rear IO panel

Understood. Please compress and upload the CLOVER folder from:
  • USB install disk
  • Internal SSD
In both cases you may remove serial numbers from the SMBIOS section of config.plist.

@CaseySJ doing the iGPU install method again didn’t get the panic this time but getting stuck on this screen with Apple logo stuck before GUI installer boot I guess it’s a step in the right direction lol

Can’t be seen in the photo well but loading bar is like purplish and mouse is stuck in corner

Also updated to F8 Bios and followed F8 Bios setup from post #1

I also moved fenvi card to lowest short pci slot

I’ve also tried usbc to DP into monitor and HDMI to monitor

made sure SMBIOS was 19,1 with serial that is not currently active and put MLB info in RT variable section.
Please check the following:
  • In BIOS, is your IGPU's memory allocation set to at least 64MB?
    Screen Shot 2019-12-08 at 2.43.07 AM.png
  • Then feel free to compress and upload the CLOVER folder from USB install disk with serial numbers removed from SMBIOS section of config.plist.

@CaseySJ wanted to post some thanks! I used your guide for a fresh Mojave build and everything went extremely smoothly.

What is the difference between the SSDT for your case and the one for the R6? I have the R6 USB-C case and I'm using your original one, everything is fine except for front USB 2.0 since the BT is plugged in there.
That's a good question!
  • At the time it was created, the Fractal Design USB SSDT was enabling both HS11 and HS12 (internal USB 2.0 header) to connect to the two front panel USB 2 ports, whereas the standard USB SSDT was not.
  • But as time went by, we updated the standard USB SSDT to also enable both HS11 and HS12.
  • So now it seems the two SSDTs are more or less the same. It's just a matter of defining which one is for external USB devices and which one is for internal USB devices.
