[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Has anyone been able to get all audio jack ports play sound coming from external speakers? I have tested all audio ports on the I/O panel, and the only one that seems to work with layout 16 for Realtek 1220-vb is the audio port labeled "in" and the only audio port to work with external speakers on Windows is the audio port labeled "out". Please see picture attached and the diagram explains the the only two audio ports that currently work with the basic setup for plugging in a external dual channel left and right audio speaker 3.5 mm aux cable. Is there a way to fix for all audio ports on Back Panel to work or recognize as audio receiving? The audio selected for the hack is "line out". The second one is recognized but does not work when switching audio ports.
The green output jack on the rear IO panel is actually called Internal Speakers in System Preferences —> Sound. On my system:
  • Green audio out jack —> wonderful analog sound because it’s driven by a high-quality on-board DAC.
  • TOSLINK (optical digital output) —> connected to a pair of Kanto YU-6 self-powered speakers. Probably the best way to drive these speakers.
  • Front audio jack (on Phanteks Evolv X) —> it works, but sound quality is definitely AAA or abhorrently abysmally atrocious. No one should use that port. If a front-panel audio jack is necessary, simply purchase an US$8.00 USB audio adapter or use a longer audio cable that can reach the green port on rear panel.
  • Microphone jack on rear panel also works.
  • Haven’t tested the remaining ports.

I've been following this thread for a few weeks and it all seems really interesting. I'm considering building my first Hackintosh in the next few months to replace my ageing 2012 Mac mini. I'm not looking at doing anything graphics intensive initially so I was wondering if this kind of build would work running purely on intel graphics from a 9700k?
Yes it would, but you might experience various graphics artifacts and/or glitches from time to time or in one app or another. If you must use the iGPU, I would encourage you to experiment with various options in Hackintool —> Patch. I can provide more specific hints later. But with AMD GPUs being so inexpensive today (including AMD RX 570, RX 580, RX 590) your best best would be to drive your monitor with an AMD GPU and configure the iGPU for headless operation where it’s used to accelerate A/V transcoding functions.

Clover Configurator —> Devices —> Arbitrary probably has an invalid entry. Also, if your CLOVER/ACPI/patched folder has an RX 580 SSDT, it should be deleted.
Casey,

Yes, somehow my "Clover Configurator —> Devices —> Arbitrary & Properties" seem to have more than 1 invalid entry.
I crudely adjusted the "custom properties" value of PciAddr 03:00.0 so the card is listed properly in "About this Mac", but
am worried about the ramifications of this mess.

Seems strange to me that simply replacing a graphics card (to the same slot) and removing the RX 580 SSDT could have caused this. I'm not really sure how to proceed to fix this, most of the config.plist's I've looked at don't have any entries in these boxes. I'm assuming I need them for the headless igpu mode? Any tips on how to proceed.

ps. Happy Thanksgiving!!

The second entry in the screenshot (left side box) is 01:00.0 AMD Radeon and AMD Radeon RX 580. The properties associated with this entry should be modified for the new GPU.

It seems you may have accidentally modified the properties associated with the 3rd entry in the left side box (03:00.0 Broadcom BCM4360). The model property for this entry should be changed back to something like Fenvi FV-T919, and slot-name should be Slot 3 instead of PCIe3.

Please have a look at the guide for this, located here:

Nice Mini-Guide! I'll get on that right away.
The only other side effect of my update is Clover seems to have lost the ability to recall which drive I booted from last and
auto start from that drive after 5 seconds. I'm thinking the NVram must have gotten borked somehow? Thoughts?

Anyhow thanks again and I hope you have a great Thanksgiving.

Anyone trouble with Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom and managed to fix it? (CC2019& the last version).
When I install them, the PC stalls on boot. When I reboot, (gray Clover Apple logo) doesn't get to the black Apple logo.
Tried twice , need every time to recover it back.

Fresh Catalina install. Same hardware configuration as topic. Home folder split from the system folder.

Thanx!

OK, I meanwhile managed to install Catalina doing the upgrade path from Mojave using both my iGPU and my external Sapphire Pulse 5700XT. It´s been the strangest update ride I've ever encountered.

1. Installed Mojave 100% sticking to the install guide on page 1 of this thread. Installed with iGPU and HDMI Fix.
2. Went to the App Store and chose to update to Catalina. Catalina Installer prepares, running the update. Screen starts showing all the debugging stuff and went pitch black. Still on iGPU. Nothing happens from this point in time. Waited, tried a few times, same result.
3. Installed the Sapphire 5700XT, changed BIOS initial Display Output and ran again. Debugging starts, Screen went green and purple for about 5-10 Mins with a white line on top. White line vanishes and all of a sudden GPU fans stop working and screen went black again. Mainboard still on.
4. Tried again, same result, but this time I tried to hot swap the HDMI cable shortly after the fans stop. What is see is not exactly what i expected but the Catalina Login Screen on the Monitor.

So I am on Catalina 10.15.1, ATM. Seems to be working quite good with iGPU. I tried to update to the latest Beta but every time I start the Update process the Apple logo appears and the progress bar is starting but after a short while the system is rebooting into 10.15.1. again.

eGPU stops working the moment the login screen ist up and ready. Any Idea? adgpmod=pikera was missing and did the job. Fans still stop working, that might be normal under no heavy load but system idle.
I like you already! No Fake GPU device ID specified in Clover Configurator —> Devices at the top left?

Are you using SMBIOS iMac19,1? How long did you wait before restarting?

This is with HDMI connector patch still applied (which is okay)?

HDMI hot-plug seems to reactivate the GPU. Do you have a DisplayPort cable and DP-capable monitor? DP should be more reliable.

With iGPU or with RX 5700 XT GPU?

When you begin the update and the system restarts, do you see an option in Clover Boot Manager entitled Boot macOS Install from Catalina or Boot macOS Install from Catalina - Data? The keyword to look for is Install. You must manually choose that option if it’s not the default.

Yes this is normal. AMD GPUs have fan-stop BIOS. Fans will turn on when temperature reaches 50-60C.

Looking forward to the answers!

I'm planning to exchange my Vega 64 to a 5700XT to improve my gaming performance but I'm wondering how is the current state of 5700XT in MacOS as this is my main productivity rig.

Another option is to add a second Nvidia GPU to use only in Windows, but I don't have any idea if it even messier than trying to make 5700XT work.

Is Clover Configurator —> Boot set to Last Booted Volume from the pop-up menu?

Sone questions and suggestions:
  • If there’s no discrete AMD GPU in the system, have you set Platform ID to 0x3E9B0007 per the sample config.plist located here?
  • What is the make/model of your monitor? Is it a TV?
  • At which point does the kernel panic occur? When selecting:
    • Boot macOS Install from Install macOS Catalina
    • Boot macOS from Catalina - Data
    • Boot macOS from Catalina
  • If you’ve recorded a video, you may scrub that video frame by frame until the moment before the kernel panic is thrown. Then screen-capture one or two of those frames.

Hi mate. Thanks for the response! It's actually my second hackintosh build, but the first one was in 2008. So you can tell how out of it I am :)

I tried a few things including the platform ID you mentioned as well as the HDMI help linked on the first post but couldn't get it to work. I didn't think it was the graphics though as I wouldn't expect a kernel panic for that, but what do I know :)

The kernel panic is/was just before the graphics turned on (the installation screen). It's connected via HDMI to a TV (LG).

Sorry to have taken your time though, as I came across another forum (in German) and used the EFI folder and config file from there and everything works perfectly fine now. Managed to install and move clover to the main drive. Sleep works (just tried it twice so far :D), USB is fine, graphics are fine (except a brief purple bar shortly before each boot into desktop), icloud/messages etc. all fine. I haven't tried Thunderbolt yet but will do it soon I hope :)

Am I allowed to cross-post here, in case anyone else has the same issue?

home folder splitted from the system folder

Thanx!

  • This post is from a user whose Home and System folders are split, but Photoshop works fine.
  • This post is from a user whose Home and System folders are split and has a problem with Adobe apps.
  • This post is a reply to the above user indicating that split folders are okay, but some permission-related issues need to be resolved.
    • He then followed @Thaigyver’s guide that is referenced in Post 1 (Home and OS Folders on Separate Drives).
    • You may also click here for that guide.
