Well
hurre i figured it out my freezing issue solved and now my system running smotthly without any freeze or lag or any other issuess,i just installed proper driversand turned of the screen savers thats it.

That is great to hear.
Did you find the right drivers you were missing, or did you use this one I attached to my post? Just so we know if this works for more people. It worked for me perfectly, never had an issue since i posted my solution.

Hi all
After installing Sierra on my x220, I was suffering from these freezes (no beachball, I can still move my cursor and operate lights on keyboard like caps lock, but nothing responds). Anyway I upgraded from 1x4gb RAM to 2x4gb, and that seemed to do the trick. I recently installed High Sierra, and since then the freezing has come back with a vengeance. I'm a heavy user of Word, and I get the impression the freezing has something to do with that, especially when I've got many documents open at once. Also often happens when I Alt-Tab between programmes. Any advice would be most welcome - I'm a bit of a novice on the technical side.
Thanks

I believe I now have High Sierra stable on my Series 5 motherboard. There were multiple causes of my instability and I am writing up an install guide for this MB. In short the fixes are:
  • Select MacPro5,1 as the system, as iMac14,2 results in High Sierra trying to perform power management this MB/CPU is not capable of.
  • Apply the ICH10 fix for Random freeze HDD led on as the P55 chipset has an ICH10 embedded in it.
  • Audit your programs, especially any autostart ones, for any that are not being updated for Mojave. I had one (DragThing) that resulted in an occasional Pinwheel of Death.
  • Apply the [Solved] High Sierra - need CMOS reset after sleep to fix the CMOS corruption on sleep fix.
The P55 used to be simpler to run as a Hackintosh, but with the above fixes I believe it is stable.

Hi MrPopman, I was wondering how your install guide for the GA-P55M-UD4 is coming along, I have a very similar set up as yours and am having some problems getting High Sierra to run.

Cheers for your time.

I had those random freezes aswell and tried almost everything. At the moment it looks like the problem could be fixed in my configuration with a BIOS-UPDATE, which contains Intel microcode updates for severe issues...

After 14 months and trying a billion things the solution for me was to disable xmp in clover and in the bios and then use the manual option to set the memory speed. Have not had a random reboot since.

Bumping - so tired of this. I get freezing audio (when the freeze happens.). It might be heat related as there SEEMS to be some correlation with hot days, but honestly that could be a red herring. I'm getting close to ACK(!) buying a real Mac and converting this machine to a win blows box. As much as I hate the idea, these freezes are significantly hampering my day job!

Adding additional color to see if someone has thoughts:

Running 10.13.3 (17D47) as I tried to update to .4 a while back but it just hung on the reboot so I just let it sit at .3 release.

The freezing has been going on for a long time. It's not new, I'm just tired of it. Today, the machine froze 4 times in an hour (which supports my heat theory). Possibly related, I had a hard drive plugged in that felt really hot. But when I took it out, my clover settings seem to be lost and I was in no mood to start adding variables, so I put the drive back in.

Do you have XMP enabled in the bios? For a long time I was getting crashes so much so that I did exactly what you said above and bought a Mac mini, with EGPU and it served it purpose. Few months after I purchased the Mac mini I discovered that disabling XMP my system was stable. Long story short I disable XMP in the bios and set the speed of the memory manually and leave the rest of the settings on auto. My current uptime 9 days on my system, and 23 days on my wife's, the third system is off because currently I have noting to test.
