[Guide] Intel NUC7/NUC8 using Clover UEFI (NUC7i7Bxx,NUC8i7Bxx,etc)

I would encourage you to download the EFI folder from this post which is for NUC7. All you have to change is your serial number for your NUC. If you don't know how to do that it is easy and takes like only a few easy steps.

Now your question about kexts. Rehabman's guide is NO LONGER updated or works for a STABLE NUC. Leesureone wrote about kext location recently. Most of us have all our Kests in the EFI partition /kexts/other folder and have zero problems with our NUC's so I could say for a number of reasons I won't list keep them there.

If you copy and paste the below NUC7 efi the kexts are all in one place the kexts/other folder. Now you will have to delete duplicate kexts from your /Library/Extensions/ folder and then most importantly after the new efi is copied REBUILD YOUR KEXT cache.

Here is a link:

The below has the latest clover and also kexts updated too and much more.

NUC7 EFI link below:

Here is a GUIDE to making a CATALINA install usb drive for a clean install and it is easy and quick to do because the EFI folder has all the hard work done for you already.

Thank you @spottsy. So I took the plunge and rebuilt my hackintosh from scratch (following the most up to date guide). all the old kexts are gone and everything is clean now. I had a heck of a time getting my wifi and bluetooth to work. Wifi was a kext not in the prebuilt EFI folder, and internal bluetooth is a write-off for now and am using a dongle.

A couple things still not working (or working correctly):
1. Still no accelerated graphics. (See screenshot)
2. When my machine is left overnight, when I access it, the screen will be frozen, if I click a bit, it will bering me back to the login screen. When I try to log back in, it will reboot.

Again, thanks to this community! So close I can taste it!

Question For Spotsy or Leeserone: do the internal usb headers work with our EFI? I prepared the cable for the internal bluetooth chip.

My NUC8i7 has been working well with Leesureone's EFI folder. The only issue ever since upgrading to Cataline, I have been having times when it randomly fires up the fan on full blast and then shuts off completely. I have finally identified that I was having horrible overheating issues. I just installed HWMonitors and it looks like just opening a couple browser windows open or with VMWare fusion open the CPU temps are over 95deg C. Its a fairly new device so not like it would have a bunch of dust. Any thoughts on this?

Edit:
For reference, I have only 1 browser window open and CPU cores are at 100 or 95 degrees C. This is with tweaking the bios to limit heat by turning off performance settings.

Let me clarify did you follow my guide from this thread? This is the NUC7 efi folder you should be using. If you are not using it download it. Mount your efi partition and backup your existing EFI folder then delete it and empty the BIN. Then copy this EFI to your EFI partiton using finder. Then all you need to do is to make sure your serial number is unique so icloud, imessage etc works.

Below is the NUC 7 EFI tweaked for Catalina

My guide has info about mounting your EFI partition and changing serial number and more.

The EFI has clover and all the latest updated kexts and should fix your problem.

The error suggests your CPU isn't being detected properly. The kexts or drivers in this EFI folder should fix the problem for sure and the sleep problem too.

They do but from what other users have said they had to rebuild their USB.SSDT so they would work. The weren't included in the build Rehabman started for us but Sakuri has these versions on his Github page. He runs the internal wifi/bluetooth in his M2 slot like you are. I've attached his ACPI\patched folder, just replace the contents of yours after backing up, hopefully it does the job for you.

So I decided the other day to do a new clean install on my NUC8i5BEH and use Leeureone's EFI folder as per the updated guide, as my original build was getting very messy. I also updated to bios 74 and created a unique serial number as originally, while iMessage & Facetime etc worked, I didn't like the idea of possibly sharing a serial number with others.

Now i have fairly random issues of the screen going blank and then to snow, usually when coming out of screen sleep and I have to unplug/plug in the HDMI cable to get a picture back.

And more importantly iMessage no longer works, when I try to login I get an authentication error message.

Any ideas chaps?

Odd HDMI behavior, you can try updating the HDMI firmware but it very well make no difference. If not then try updating Lilu and Whatevergreen.kexts from this site. https://www.tonymacx86.com/resources/categories/kexts.11/

As far as imessage it sounds like your serial number has already been used, repeat the process of changing it but before applying it check on the Apple Website and make sure the new one is free. https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/an-idiots-guide-to-imessage.196827/

No help for my random shut downs and high heat? I took the whole thing apart and checked for dust buildup in the fan assembly (read about that on other threads) but there was none. I actually think it’s some kind of software issue. No one else is having this problem?
