[Guide] Intel NUC7/NUC8 using Clover UEFI (NUC7i7Bxx,NUC8i7Bxx,etc)

But I don’t have windows, macos is my only OS :)?
Then don't worry about it or get a windows license and install it on an external drive.

Updated succesfully some kext via Cover Configurator Kext installer
- AppleALC 1.4.3
- Lilu 1.3.9
- Whatevergreen 1.3.4
- I also replaced IntelMausiethernet 2.5.0b0 with Intelmausi 1.0.2 (no idea what the difference is, but this one I can easily update via CC in the future..)

how did you do it from mac? It's an exe?

Used Windows 10 as I dual boot. Or just run Windows 10 trial it never expires from an external usb drive works too.

See below I wrote about it. make sure to read the entire pdf before updating. It isn't a simple click and off it goes update.

Windows 10 legally allow trial that has some features disabled. I own an oem copy of Windows 10 for my NUC but for updates and the sort you don't have to fork out money. They used to make it time out at 180 days but they don't anymore not sure why. I can only presume as Windows 7 is now out of support they really want everyone on Windows 10 as supporting ONE OS is much more cost effective. They only support windows 10 and 8,8.1.
I did see the smiley at the end of "only one OS" :)

I updated a week or so too to the latest which you list above. I uses "kext updater" but both are simple process without looking up links which I like.

So this hackintosh was updated from an original RehabMan install on Mohave, which worked fine. Whie I followed your guide to updating to catalina, everything seemed to work, until I started noticing things lke my bluetooth and now graphs not working. Now, I seem to have kexts two locations; EFI/.../kexts/other and /Library/Extensions/.

Not sure if I'm supposed to have some of them in both or one or the other. I can screen grab as needed, jut need some guidance to know what to share with you. thanks!!

I would encourage you to download the EFI folder from this post which is for NUC7. All you have to change is your serial number for your NUC. If you don't know how to do that it is easy and takes like only a few easy steps.

Now your question about kexts. Rehabman's guide is NO LONGER updated or works for a STABLE NUC. Leesureone wrote about kext location recently. Most of us have all our Kests in the EFI partition /kexts/other folder and have zero problems with our NUC's so I could say for a number of reasons I won't list keep them there.

If you copy and paste the below NUC7 efi the kexts are all in one place the kexts/other folder. Now you will have to delete duplicate kexts from your /Library/Extensions/ folder and then most importantly after the new efi is copied REBUILD YOUR KEXT cache.

Here is a link:

The below has the latest clover and also kexts updated too and much more.

NUC7 EFI link below:

Here is a GUIDE to making a CATALINA install usb drive for a clean install and it is easy and quick to do because the EFI folder has all the hard work done for you already.

Okay, my guide is for NUC8's not NUC7's, different hardware, so that's an issue. Software update could have been all you needed to update to Catalina. If you copied my EFI folder, or someone else's, over to your machine that's a problem for several reasons. You want one location for kexts, don't duplicate them in both locations. Removing them from your EFI folder is now the best or easier way without causing other problems, leave the drivers. Try that first and see how it works out. Have you ever updated your kexts or version of clover? That maybe something you will need to deal with after you sort this. Back up your data, make sure your boot disk is working first and then start making adjustments.
I read this after my posts answering questions from previous page. Great advice. Honestly if it were me I would do a clean install. As Leesureone says make sure you have a bootable usb which is easy if you just copy the EFI we linked to the NUC 7 to a usb that is formatted FAT32. Or just follow the guide I linked above to make a bootable catalina usb install drive. It honestly takes about 10 minutes to do that and have a usb to clean install Catalina 10.15.1 ready to go.
Best of luck. Leesureone is the guru of these forums for a long time I have come to understand after going back and reading many of his posts. So everything he says is spot on.

I’m playing with the idea of installing win10 on my samsung 970 evo plus in an m.2 external enclosure (you mentioned these before). Would you have any idea how to start with this from macos :)?

Follow this guide. It is easy you just download the windows.iso and then use terminal commands to make a windows 10 boot USB drive. You don't have any other windows 10 drive around?
Anyway once done restart your computer and press f10 when you start and used the uefi usb flash drive to boot from and then make sure to choose the Samsung usb drive to install to in the install process. Make sure not to install to your MacOS. It might be safest to just remove your MacOS temporarily so you don't install to the wrong drive.

I have a few external OS like linux and also a Mojave and Catalina Backups to USB as well as a second windows 10 they all work fast and are solid. Good luck.

Make sure to update your Samsung 970 evo plus to the latest firmware after you install windows 10 as you cannot update it in MAC OS. Also if you just get the usb 3.1 external enclouse even if it has usb-c connector it will only be around 425mbs read and write speed.
If you want the fast 2700 speed you have to get a m.2 thunderbolt to usb-c to get the better speeds and they are costly I believe.
Make sure it is the NVMe interface as well for the enclousre.
