[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Thanks, Casey. This didn’t help, but perhaps I’m not doing what you intended. Here are my results:

That key combination didn’t do anything, anywhere. I’m a Mac tech (for more than 20 years), and I’ve never heard of that convo. I tried it both on the Desktop and from the macOS install screen. I just opened Terminal manually from both.

From the Desktop, I ran the first two Terminal commands, and the second line “cd Install\ macOS\ Mojave.app/Contents/Resources” shows up as “no such file or directory”

So, I guessed that you might mean to do this from the installer screen when it gives the error. I tried that, and it accepted the command from “bash#” prompt. However, the next line “./startosinstall --volume /Volumes/MojaveSSD”goes nowhere either. I did change it to my drive “mojave” but it just failed and didn’t start any sort of install.
did I misunderstand somewhere?

I can get you the logs if it would help.

thanks

paul
It's possible that the Install macOS Mojave application is corrupt. You should first delete this from the Applications folder, empty the trash, then re-download the full combo installer by clicking here.

When the download is complete, locate Install macOS Mojave in the Applications folder and launch it. How far does it go?

I would also strongly encourage you at this time to review the first part of the build guide -- from Installation Overview to Final Steps in Post-Installation. This was designed to help users become more comfortable with the process.

Countered something after restoring the original install of Mojave with CCC.
I cannot update from Mojave to Catalina anymore. My Mojave volume is greyed out for the update.
It says that I have to have a macOS version of Catalina (10.15) or higher.
Who has an answer?
Thanks
Some questions:
  • After restoring the original installation of Mojave, can you mount the EFI partition?
    • If so, is there an EFI folder?
    • If so, is there a BOOTsub-folder under the EFI folder?
      • If so, is there a file inside this folder called BOOTX64.efi?
    • Is there also a CLOVER sub-folder under the EFI folder?
    • Is there also a WINDOWS sub-folder under the EFI folder?
  • When you reboot the computer and press F12at the BIOS Splash Screen, the BIOS Boot Menu (not Clover Boot Menu) will appear.
    • Is this restored Mojave disk shown in the BIOS Boot Menu?

CaseySJ,

I'm having an issue I can't quite figure out and was wondering what you thoughts were. I followed your instructions to backup my Catalina installation to the letter. My backup is on as 500 GB SSD (ADATA SP550) connected to one of the recommended USB3 ports. The backup with it's various partitions mounts fine and looks exactly like my boot drive, a Carbon Copy.
The trouble is when I restart my machine and hit F12 I never see or am presented with the option to boot into Clover
from it. I have attached several images to show you what I mean. I would think there would be an option to boot from
"UFEI OS (ADATA SP550) but it never shows up. I know there's a bunch of drives on my system and suspect there's more than the "boot Menu" can display.
Any idea of how I can resolve this situation?

Thanks in Advance, I'm open to any suggestions..
It looks as if Windows has installed its own bootloader on the ADATA SP550. This should be easy to identify and fix, as follows:
  • Mount EFI partition of the ADATA SP550.
  • Open the EFI folder.
  • Do you see a WINDOWS sub-folder?
  • If so, proceed with caution like this:
    • Because this is an externally mounted disk, check if you can boot Windows when this external disk is not connected. If so, it means the Windows bootloader is also installed somewhere else, so we can delete the WINDOWS sub-folder from the ADATA SP550.
      • After deleting the WINDOWS folder from the EFI partition of the SP 550, check again whether UEFI OS boot option suddenly becomes available.

CaseySJ,

That worked like a charm. UEFI OS (ADATA SP550) showed itself as a boot choice as soon as I deleted a "Microsoft" folder in the EFI Partition of the SP550 SSD backup.

What I'm wondering now is: Will I not have the same issue every time I run the CCC Backup task w/ the EFIClone-v3.sh enabled? I tried removing that "Microsoft" folder from the EFI Partition of my Catalina Boot Disk and I can't boot into Windows 10 without it (so I put it back..). Is there a way make a Bootable Backup my Dual-Boot Clover "Catalina / Windows 10" install that would actually be bootable without modification?

I really am forever in your debt. Thanks..

Ending up boot in recovery mode, partition drive, booted CCC USB and restore it.
After this I could update to 10.15.1

At this moment I am installing 10.15.1.....

Getting stuck after;
DMOS has arrived
GTract synchronisation point 1
Previous

Nothing happens after 5 minutes

I have the new AppleALC, Lilu and Whatevergreen
clover 5093

Weird because when I did a first install ever I could update and did nothing at all......

EDIT++++++
I am currently exploring and checken all from ground up so I report back here

This sounds like the M2M vs M2P problem with Windows. Namely:
  • If Windows is installed on an NVMe M.2 SSD in the bottom M2P slot and macOS is installed in the top M2M slot, then Windows will always install its bootloader on the macOS SSD.
  • Solution is to physically remove and reverse the two SSDs:
    • Move Windows SSD into the top M2M slot.
    • Move macOS SSD into the bottom M2P slot.
  • Then reboot and log into macOS.
  • Mount EFI partitions of both NVMe SSDs.
  • Move the Windows (or Microsoft) folder from the EFI partition of the macOS SSD to the EFI partition of the Windows SSD.
    • The macOS EFI partition will no longer have the Microsoft folder.
  • Reboot and check whether both Windows and macOS are bootable.

  • What version of Mojave is running right now? Is it 10.14.6?
  • Have you updated Lilu, WhateverGreen, and AppleALC in both:
    • EFI partition of Mojave SSD (CLOVER/kexts/Other)
    • /Library/Extensions folder (and then run Kext Utility to rebuild kernel cache)
  • Are you using HDMI or DisplayPort?
  • Are you using a computer monitor with HDMI 2.0 and/or DisplayPort 1.2, or a TV?

If you search this thread for High Sierra you'll find some posts on this topic. You may be able to install High Sierra using SMBIOS iMac18,3. Unfortunately I cannot provide any assistance for High Sierra, but if you post any issues in this thread, maybe someone else will be able to help.

Note: You can still install Mojave and use only the iGPU (Intel UHD 630) with macOS. There is an SSDT in Post #1 that will hide your Nvidia GPU from macOS. If you choose this option, then of course I can help. (Catalina may not be a good option for you if you use any 32-bit plug-ins.)

Hi, is't possible put in sleep mode only pressing power button (like Windows)?
