[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Using iMac19,1 may be the best choice for Catalina and beyond. Because you have not yet installed macOS, you are in a good position to compare both iMac19,1 and iMacPro1,1.
  1. Start with iMac19,1 and install just your one or two key music production apps.
  2. Test performance and check how many simultaneous tracks/instruments the apps can support.
  3. Make a backup copy of the config.plist before taking the next step.
  4. Now switch to iMacPro1,1 -- this will create new serial numbers, which is okay because you're in the very early stages and you can re-license your apps if you switch back to iMac19,1.
  5. Repeat step 2.
  6. Now determine whether one SMBIOS is substantially better than the other.
    • If there is no substantial difference, switch back to iMac19,1 by restoring the config.pilst from Step 3.
    • Otherwise stay on iMacPro1,1
@CaseySJ, THX for your input, as always, it is appreciated!
I had sort of resolved to do something like what you proposed already, trying each SMBIOS for myself and comparing results.
Just a few questions:

1. Should I disable IGPU when using iMac Pro?
2. I'm assuming I'll be using a headless config on the iMac19 SMBIOS correct?
3. Would you mind uploading a post-install working config.plist (sans the SMBIOS and RTVariables)? As I mentioned in my first post, only have my installer flash drive, but no access to my hacks right now, so a working config is the only thing keeping me from starting the fun :) Otherwise I'll try and manually edit one of my older desktop configs to at least boot the thing and install Mojave.

Thanks!

Ahhh thx for the report! :)
Sleep has always been a touchy point of hacks, and one feature that I don't really use much on the DAW, so I should be OK. But for the case of completion and having a fully working system, I'll probably try to get it working as good as I can... What kind of issues are you encountering with sleep?

For a DAW, sleep is a definite nono... Anyway, it works most of the times, nice for my electricity bill/the environment.
Sometimes it will not kick in properly, and my screensaver will start instead. Or it will bounce right back to the login screen.
Sleep was much worse on my 2 previous hacks, BTW.

Lots of (cheap and/or old) USB peripherals certainly do not help.

My hacks were never perfect, but they get the job(DAW/Photo's/Programming) done just fine.

I just did a check, exactly from schema, everything installed properly, 1 USB 3.0 (only working with front left USB 3.0, not with USB 3.0 in middle), 1 USB 3.1 C installed properly also and it works for the front one. Any other suggestions that I should check?
This is what I got with IORegistryExplorer while both USB 3.0 are plugged.

Whoa! Wait a minute... Where are your USB 2 ports: HS03, HS04, HS05, HS06, HS09, HS10, HS11, HS12??

If you’re not sure how to fix this, please compress and upload your CLOVER folder, and remove serial numbers from SMBIOS.

Hey @CaseySJ

I know this is off topic, but I didn't want to barge in and create a sub problem in your thread again, so, when you have some free time to spend, could you have a look over here?

To answer your questions:
  1. In general, yes we should disable IGPU when using iMacPro 1,1.
  2. Yes again. Headless platform ID 0x3E980003 when using iMac19,1 with a discrete GPU.
  3. If you search this thread for posts by me, you'll find a fair number of user config.plist files that may be of help. I've stated previously (which means I'm not singling you out!) that I don't upload my config.plist or EFI folder because that defeats the purpose of the build guide.

Done! :)

O sorry, didn't know that :) I'll manually edit one of my existing configs to at least get to boot Mojave and download Catalina. Once I'm somewhat up and running I'll follow the guide to create the proper config :)

Thanks again!

I'm on Catalina now the only thing that's not working is sleep the PC instantly wakes up. Anything else perfect.
What can it be some advice?
