[Guide] Intel NUC7/NUC8 using Clover UEFI (NUC7i7Bxx,NUC8i7Bxx,etc)

Hi Pro, I installed on my NUC7i3BNH and all feature are working very well but my system using a lot of ram. Could you Pro can advise me how to reduce ram using by system. It's often use 8/12Gb of ram when I open Safari, when I open PTS it use 12/12Gb of ram, :(. I attached 2 pic from activity and from clean my Mac. Thank for your help.

It is normal for Mac OS X to use a third of the Ram at least when booting then swapping out to a tempo
Karate Chop! More like the Austin Powers of Hackintosh, yeah baby! :D. I don't have an answer for you but I'll check to see if I have the same issue and report back later. If I do its something new being I have always been able to select the Windows boot drive as default in the bios, or the boot option window, and then boot via boot manager.
Edit: At boot I hit the F10 key and choose Windows boot manager and it works so it is still installed and functional. Are you sure you are choosing the right partition to boot from?

That is weird. I have had this happen a few times now. If I REMOVE my MacOS hard drive completely from the NUC windows 10 wont boot at all. So I know I have chosen the correct hard drive boot manager.

I have backed up the windows EFI partition and boot files and will check time stamps and file size to see if Clover changes something.

The first time it happened was after I installed Windows 10 to the M.2. drive. I then installed Mojave Hackintosh to the SATA drive etc and then Windows 10 wouldn't boot if I took the Mojave SATA drive out of the NUC.

I have worked out a way to make it work now. If I am booting MAC I make sure to disable the SATA in bios which is where Windows 10 is installed. When I am booting Windows I disable M.2. though I don't need to do the latter but keeps the Mac Hard drive hidden from Windows.

Thanks for the response. NUC8i7BEH, 2Bar of Crucial Ram, HD is a sata WD. The configuration was working fine for Mojave using your previous EFI. But once I get to Catalina, It work for a while before it crashes, so yeah. I am not sure why either.

Is it possible that I import my previous setting from another mac that caused the crash?

Just checking again did you update your EFI folder to the NEW Catalina friendly EFI. Don't use the old one.

I figured that's what you meant but had to ask, there isn't a lot of support for using VM Ware. Bet that was it though and you are good now.
Hey, bro, I am not sure if it is too much to ask. You have done incredible work in this forum. But to track through 150 pages of forum to find your latest working EFI is no easy task. May we ask you to upload your latest working EFIs for Mojave and Catalina into your github? Makes it easier to us yo grab.

Cheers

Ok I'm still screwed with my network speed (ethernet gigabit).

I've been doing some iperf3 testing using my Synology NAS and NUC8 Catelina (both connected through ethernet in my home network)

Result when nas is server and nuc8 is client (= very good):
[ 5] 0.00-1.00 sec 109 MBytes 913 Mbits/sec [ 5] 1.00-2.00 sec 111 MBytes 934 Mbits/sec [ 5] 2.00-3.00 sec 111 MBytes 934 Mbits/sec [ 5] 3.00-4.00 sec 111 MBytes 935 Mbits/sec [ 5] 4.00-5.00 sec 111 MBytes 934 Mbits/sec [ 5] 5.00-6.00 sec 111 MBytes 934 Mbits/sec [ 5] 6.00-7.00 sec 111 MBytes 935 Mbits/sec [ 5] 7.00-8.00 sec 111 MBytes 934 Mbits/sec [ 5] 8.00-9.00 sec 111 MBytes 934 Mbits/sec [ 5] 9.00-10.00 sec 111 MBytes 934 Mbits/sec

Result when nas is client and nuc8 is server (= very bad):

So this is bad! (basically useless, browsing is super slow...).

I already disabled the bios setting and tried to set the ethernet connection to manual but that didn't help... :( Please help

I have a synology NAS DS414 and use the NAS all the time in my house. I have cat6 cabling around the house.

I don't use know what iperf3 is. Had a quick look on google. But I can copy a large file from my Mac To the NAS and it copies around 110mbs. Also I can copy FROM my NAS and the speed is just as good at around 110mb a second.

I mount my synolgoy NAS using afp://SYNOLOGY-DS418.local and had to set that up in the NAS settings.

Is your question saying you having slow copy from problems? I used to have that before setting up the NAS settings correctly first. If that is the problem I'll send you some videos I used etc.

I don't have a GitHub page, no plans at this time to open one. Page 91 post 901. #901

Have you tried setting FixRegions to true in ACPI?

I don’t have any problems with my NAS. I have issues with the performance of my gigabit ethernet on my nuc8 with catelina: it’s slow as hell. Iperf is a tool to test your network. It needs a client and server on your network. I used my nas and my nuc8 as they both are connected through ethernet.

All of the suggestions did not work for me, so I’m currently at 100mbit

So, my better half's iMac (Late 2009) has just about reached the end of its life. Been a good run. I'm thinking about building a NUC-based replacement using a NUC8i5BEH1, an ample amount of memory (16GB), and 500GB of M.2 SSD. I know I'll have to add a bluetooth adapter so her wireless keyboard & trackpad will work.
Am I missing anything? Is this a completely looney idea? I guess the other option is to go "mini" on the desktop...

Thanks for your thoughts.

@AlteredHorizon makes a valid point depending on where you live. The Fix Regions patch has been documented to help with ethernet speeds in cases like yours.
