[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Well just updated a cloned disk of my mojave disk to Catalina. Everything went ok without problems during update. And sidecar is working fine! Just like in my Macbook Pro.

What is not working for me is sound. I can only get sound from HDMI. Also maybe i did something wrong with clover boot, because i can't start automatically the disks when computer is retarting at clover menu, I have to select them manually.

Also because I updated a cloned disk of my Mojave disk, after update to Catalina could not find clover at EFI partition of Catalina. So I copied EFI folder from the Mojave partition to the Catalina partition.

Everything seems to be ok apart from the sound.

Update: after updating Lilu, WhateverGreen and AppleALC, sound is working Fine! Just need to solve the boot automatically from Catalina!
Woohoo!! This is the first report of success with SideCar. Although you have the AORUS Xtreme Z390, it is a close cousin of the Designare Z390.

Which WiFi/BT card do you have?

Hello @CaseySJ
Thanks for the great guide! I have just followed along and everything is working smoothly except under PCI there is no devices? This has me perplexed. Is there any obvious place I could have messed up on? Thanks in advance.
Glad to hear it! The entries in PCI are populated by:
If the PCI page continues to remain empty, please compress and upload your CLOVER folder, but redact serial numbers from config.plist.

So... it's easy to upgrade to Catalina on a Mojave installation? Simply install and go?
  • Make a full bootable backup first. Please see the build guide section Easy Bootable Backup.
  • It's especially important to back up your Photos and iTunes libraries because those libraries are updated in Catalina. An error during the update could result in loss of data.
  • Then do an in-place upgrade from System Preferences --> Software Update.
See this post for important precautions:

I wanted to report that I also updated a cloned disk to Catalina and as it seems it works fine. Sidecar also works like a charm with my iPad 6. Gen.
The only weird thing is that FCPX needs 30 seconds longer to create a Proxy File out of a 3 minute H.264 video.
When creating Proxy File out of a H.265 file (also 3 minutes), it takes 20 seconds longer than i measured in Mojave.
Weirdly the CPU utilization is only at 25% while transcoding, while it was about 80% in Mojave.

PS: GPU utilization is 100% on both Systems while transcoding

Interesting, I'm assuming you updated FCPX? They've updated it to boost GPU usage, weird to see inferior performance, could be related to the SMBIOS you're using?

Yes, I updated it on Catalina.
My current SMBIOS is iMac 18,3. Is a newer/other one better suited for my needs?
Do I need to generate a new Serial Number if i change my SMBIOS?

Another interesting thing is that my CPU is presented as an i9 in "About my mac" but it is actually an i7 9700K. Anyone experiencing the same?

I haven't done myself but I've read here a few times that changing Serial Number 'might' not be necessary, might be worth trying with iMac 19,1. Or even better ImacPro 1,1 after switching iGPU off in BIOS and removing framebuffer entries in Clover, according to the 1st post FCPX users report better performance on this setup.

Thank you very much! I will try it as soon as possible.
