Hey! So in a few weeks i'm getting a HP Pavilion from my dad, so instead of buying an iMac in a few months i've been thinking of keeping it as my daily driver for a while. https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04762953 < That's the HP support page for the PC. The upgrades i'd do to it is a new Thermal Take 550W PSU, an RX 580, and a 512 GB SSD to put Hackintosh onto. I plan to use it as the center of my home studio so are there any sound driver issues I might have with the motherboard? I've heard a lot of motherboards have issues with sound drivers on MacOS.

  • Audio Codec: ALC659-CG
  • 5.1 channel support
  • Audio jack presence detection

I don't think there is any support for the ALC659 chip in the AppleALC kext. You could get around that by using a usb audio adapter instead. The other main problem with the Pavilion consumer line is the BIOS limitations. The HP and Dell business lines work much better as a hackintosh and there are complete guides for them*. Search Dell Optiplex and HP Elite to see some examples.

* Also check whether there is a proprietary 6 pin power connector on the motherboard. If it's not the standard 24 pin such as your Tt 550W PSU has, then an adapter is required for the PSU upgrade.

Yeah when I got my brother his PC and upgraded it (Dell Optiplex 9020) I had to get a 24 pin to 8 pin so I've prepared to have to do that
