What's up with the Open Core?
Aren't we getting love from clover anymore?


Give a brief explanation why we are moving to a new boot loader?
What are his advantages?

I can only speak for myself. The sole reason I am pursuing OpenCore is because of AptioMemoryFix (now FwRuntimeServices), which allows me to boot my X299 rig. Once AMF was removed from Clover, that means I can only use an older version of AMF, or switch. Other than that, I couldn't care less.....

I would say that OC works, but has some idiosyncracys that create issues for those who are still using kgp's configurations. Some of his patching just doesn't jive with OC. And the "booter" is very barebones.....which I guess should be expected as, according to @Pavo, OC is still "very new"......meaning, I think, alpha....or maybe early, early beta....
 
With the latest 3 versions of Clover I began getting the prohibited signal about 75% of the time when the Apple logo is supposed to appear at startup. It was a little less often with the latest version of Clover, but still annoyingly too often. And I know it’s a Clover issue because updating Clover was the only thing I changed when it started and I’m tried using all the same kexts and SSDTs in Clover and OpenCore and got the prohibited symbol in Clover and not OpenCore.

That has not happened even once with OpenCore. That’s my main reason, but also going forward we might see better compatibility with newer systems and newer MacOS versions with OpenCore.
 
Anyone of you guys tested the new GeekBench 5? My system shuts off completely during test, I tried with light and hard OC (which is stable in GB 4/CB20/terminal stress test) and without any OC or multicore enhancement. It shuts off every freaking time regardless of OC. I'm on Catalina latest Beta.

Yes, I tested GB5 using OpenCore 0.05, Catalina ß7 on an ASUS Prime Deluxe X299 with an 9980XE and a Radeon VII. SMBIOS is iMacPro1,1 with 64GB 4000MHz DDR4 (run at 3200MHz; stability issues I've not yet worked out). The 9980XE is on a sort of Auto OC, which allows speeds up to 4.5GHz.

I had no crashes; things ran smoothly. The power requirements when using GB5 were about 250 to 280W for the CPU tests. In comparison, when used LuxMark, with both the CPU and GPU combined, the power requirements were almost 700W. (My PS is rated at 850W.)

When running GB5, temps for the CPU (all cores) jumped to about 85 to 90°C, quickly returning to baseline 37°C. (The 9980XE is cooled by a 240 Corsair AIO; the Radeon VII is air-cooled.)

For reference, I've attached other tests: GB4, LuxMark and Cinebench (even the latter has variable results with R15 vs R20). All tests were with OpenCore running Catalina ß7.

The basic GB4 result was pretty good at 72,535, but the GB5 results in the spoiler were about 75% less. So both Cinebench R15 and GB4 results cannot be compared with those from their latest releases. Even the GPU results drop by almost 3x when comparing GB4 to GB5.

As for your crashes with GB5, I'd suggest watching the temps as the CPU will shut down if too hot (normally it will throttle, but if the physical contact is poor or the cooler inadequate, it can shut down---personal experience). Then, verify that your PS is rated at 750W minimum. Next, in order would be the frequency settings for the DDR4; maybe try lowering it in 200MHz steps. If those don't resolve the crashes, then perhaps re-flashing the BIOS might help.

Geekbench 5 also works fine here.
 
I got a 1000W platinum, and no other bench shuts my system off. As I said, it shuts off even without any kind of OC and I got a 360 AiO. Any hint?

Something isn't stable with your CPU. I'd re-check BIOS settings of the CPU (EIST, AVX, 4D, etc) as well as consider lowering, in 200MHz steps, the frequency settings for the DDR4. If those don't resolve the crashes, then perhaps re-flashing the BIOS might help.

System shits off even in windows, I'm a bit nervous about touching EIST, AVX, 4D, etc . If you can list pages of the bios regarding these settings, I'll provide screenshots of each page. is it ok for you? Thanks.

I have also seen an approx 75% reduction in scores. (GB4 5500/20,000 -> GB5 1111 / 5555)

EDIT: New standard reference CPU is i3-8100.

I truly would simply re-flash the BIOS. I think yours is corrupted.

The re-flashing of BIOS has almost become a routine for me with Hackintoshes if they crash too often. (CaseySJ introduced this as a trouble-shooting technique on his exceptional GB Z390 Designare build.)

I keep copies of the BIOS settings and so a re-flash with the same BIOS version is a less than a 5 min problem: re-flash, re-boot, load old BIOS settings from USB drive, re-boot once more and then go into the OS. (If you change BIOS versions, then you must manually re-load all of your settings.)

As for settings, some are crucial for a successful Clover or OC boot. This past weekend, for some odd reason, the re-loaded BIOS settings did not properly set the "MFC Mode Override" (I'm using the older ASUS X299 Prime Deluxe, version 1, mobo). It took me awhile to remember to re-check each BIOS setting and sure enough, once I'd changed "MFC Mode Override" back to "OS Native" I could finally successfully boot. BIOS does weird things at times and if anything is odd about a boot or you cannot boot, you're best off re-flashing the BIOS and then carefully re-checking each setting.

As for EIST, KGP has it both enabled and disabled over time. I can't tell the difference on my mobo and have left it enabled. The 4D Decoding is crucial for my mobo: if off, I can't boot; it must be enabled. As for AVX, I've got them set a bit more conservative than KGP: I have AVX = 5 and AVX-512 = 3.
