Hi
I am stuck with getting Mojave installed on my old desktop P9X79 Pro Asus with an i7-3820 CPU and a
Geforce GTX 680 graphics card (which is natively supported by macOS).

I know its an older model. But why not use it if i can get it to work. It runs beautifully snappy with Win10.

I can boot into Unibeast USB and i used following options

-v cpus=1 npci=0x3000 darkwake=1 nvda_drv=1
-----^----------------^
these two options recommended by a youtube video on this board.

I have installed the APFS drivers and i get passed the line that says apfs_... 1393
Then the screen just scrambles and i think it says "Still working for root device"

i have the following kexts in the Others folder for kexts

AppleALC.kext
IntelMausiEthernet.kext
Lilu.kext
USBInjectAll.kext
VirtualSMC.kext
WhateverGreen.kext
XHCI-unsupported.kext

Almost, it's actually "Still waiting for root device" and you can use the forum Search tool to look for that.

Your motherboard has three different SATA controllers so make sure that the drive that you are installing to is attached to a port that has an Intel controller.
You should install AHCI_3rdParty_SATA.kext for the other controllers.

Thanks P1LGRIM, what i did was i swtiched the USB to another USB 2.0 port at the back of the mobo where it attaches directly to the Mobo. its the very first one where you update the BIOS with.

i used these options: -v cpus=1 npci=0x3000 nvda_drv=1

and i was able to get into the macOS Mojave Installation screen. I formatted the SSD and started installing Mojave.
Wow! I am really happy i got this far! But after about 75% of the progress bar i stops with an error

During the preparation of the installation an error occured. Try again... (i translated from the german language version).

I tried to install one more time, formatting the SSD with GUID and macOS journaled extended again.
But still the same error. Do you have any suggestion what is missing?

I also tried a manual start of the installer as suggested on this sites forum too.

./startosinstall --volume /Volumes/XYZ but that had an error around 86% as well

Restarting...
Error: System Reboot failed

Update. In the Install log at the very beginning it starts complaining about :
"target cannot be converted to APFS,... you cannot install on this drive"

So i erased the SSD again and formated as FAT32 and then formatted as APFS thinking this would help the installer to do it for him. It completed the install preparation at this point and rebooted.

Now i am trying to boot into this newly appeared drive in the boot menu. ... fingers crossed.

Hey P1LGRIM, where do i download this kext? I can't find it in the repository or on the web.

story continued...

so it reboots after running install first time, then boot into macOS again and it continues installing

but around 33% into the progress bar it just seems to halt and show "estimating time remaining...12 mins remaining"

i tried to go back and reboot into the existing Recovery Partition... Reinstalled macOS since i thought it would help.
But stuck at the same point after the 1st reboot during the installation process.

is this the point you give up installing macOS with this mobo ?

attached some screenshots.

You should boot in verbose mode.

Your motherboard has three different SATA controllers so make sure that the drive that you are installing to is attached to a port that has an Intel controller.

i attached it to the SATA 3Gb port that has the Intel chipset. The installation seems stuck and progress bar is not moving (around 40%) i have no clue anymore what to do next. the activity led of my case though is blinking rapidly so maybe it is doing something that is taking ages? even though i wait more than 12 minutes and it keeps saying 12 minutes left?

i also tried installing it using the Marvell port 6G/s and was the same. stuck at the same spot.
