Apple Unveils Redesigned Mac Pro Desktop and Pro Display XDR at WWDC

I can already predict were this is going. Apple wants to move further into Pro markets where only people with bottomless bank accounts can afford to buy their gear, like Hollywood, and the recording industry, NASA, and then sell the "Toys", the iPad, the iPhones with iPadOS to make it "Feel" like a MacOS experience, (albeit with it's balls cut off). The Macbook with Intel will be phased out, just like the PowerPC to Intel. This will also be the last generation of Intel, as it is likely that the dropping of NVIDIA was stipulated in a deal with AMD, and that there will be some kind of merger with the Ryzen tech, or Apple teaming up to meet production on future models featuring Apples own CPU/GPU, or a non-Intel hybrid. The only good thing, is AMD stock is still pretty cheap, maybe a good time to buy lot's of stock, because Apple is not the performer it once was back when they had DRIP built in, when you could count on making a mint. (A relatively paltry $8000 investment that I had planned to put into Apple years ago, would have made me so rich, I could buy a New Mac Pro now, fully loaded, without blinking. I am poor now, therefore, I DIY...) Those heady days are gone, and just like we've lost the Middle Class in our country, we will probably be seeing the Middle road disappear at Apple, and the hobbyist relics like us clinging to outdated versions of the Mac, either out of nostalgia, or necessity, because Apple will find a way to close down the hackers eventually, instead of what they should do, is release a 'third' software bridge, to the DIY Hackintosh builders and coders who have already done most of the work for Apple for FREE! For those about to DIY... I salute you!

YES!!I have been saying this for years!!! They could sell Mac OS for PC's ...They could use AMD CPU's and create
a cheaper mac for the budget minded individuals......If they really wanted to take a stab at Microsoft they could compete!!
Like you said; the hard work has been done. By us for years....

Butttttttt......I think they want their products to have the image of upper-middle class to borderline rich.
"oh, yea I got that $1300 phone" no big deal, because I make $300,000+ a year....

That also kind of makes me think they are not trying too hard to fully stop hackntosh.
The T2 chip may be the beginning of the end sadly....
And this talk of making a ARM based mac pro sounds bad; I don't see a
RISC CPU competing anywhere close to a $7000 28 core 200W+ Intel CPU,
but who knows, I could be very wrong.........it happens a lot.
Seems like such a waist of all that X86 code; and a huge task.
Unless they find some way to emulate X86 on ARM...but the tests
Benchmarks I saw were about 1/6th of the performance of a native x86....pretty bad.

I think they will make a laptop/macbook that runs on Ipad OS and falls into that category.
Basically like a Ibook Pro or such and just use their A series CPU's....

But hey, whatever they are doing is making money....sooo...they probably won't do anything different....

They could sell Mac OS for PC's ...They could use AMD CPU's and create
a cheaper mac for the budget minded individuals
They would have to support every possible hardware combination to do what MS does with Windows. Not likely that Apple would ever want to do that. The amount of money and time it takes would be prohibitive.

Exactly my point; they don't want that target market.
If Microsoft supports all that hardware; Apple could also..

I agree with you; I don't believe Apple will Ever release "Mac Os for PC's" either.
My point was that they "could" from a technical stand point.

This is so true. However, you remember a few years back when Apple made upgrades to OS X/macOS free? I had been happily paying my money for those yearly releases and then suddenly they cost me nothing. Made me wonder why they did that. The $15 / £15 / €15 the old upgrades cost was not really too painful for most of us. So why did Apple give up on that lucrative revenue stream, when most Mac owners, probably millions of us, were going to buy?

Did they once-upon-a-time think about releasing OS X generally and for any hardware? Was this an idea that got abandonned? It certainly doesn't look as though they would do it nowadays. But releasing for free would mean they didn't have any obligation to support non-Apple hardware.

:)

Has anyone been able to create a hackintosh mac pro with the latest hardware for mac pro-2019 or something close to it yet? If so link, please. Thanks!
It is possible. The most recent 10.14.5 Mojave has been running on this hardware with no issues. The exact 28 core Xeon W Apple will use isn't available yet. There is one you can buy today that will give you top GB scores from the maximum config of 28 cores, if that's what you want. For only $3,000 you're well on your way to a maxed out MP on budget, a really large budget. Expect to get close to a massive 80,000 Geekbench multi-core score with the W-3175X cpu. It should also cost about $1,000 less than the W-3275 model, the 28 core Xeon W in the new Mac Pro. These numbers were recorded by Linus Tech Tips. They ran the GB 4 test with macOS Mojave installed. Why it scored so terribly low in Windows 10 I don't know.

Note: These scores are from a Xeon W-3175X that is at stock speeds.

The best thing about the Xeon W-3175X is not only that it costs less, it's that it is an unlocked Xeon.
Yes, you read that right. It can be easily overclocked to 4.8 GHz with custom liquid cooling. So the
performance of one of these will destroy that of the 28 core Apple Mac Pro. Bragging rights, seriously.

For the motherboard you would use Gigabyte of course. Here's the best option:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07TFSQ7S5/?tag=tonymacx86com-20
You even get the old school PS2 port and 4 USB 2.0. All of those come in handy with any hackintosh.

The Radeon VII is the logical choice for a GPU. I would hold off on buying one right now. Something better is coming.
You could also use an inexpensive RX 580 as a placeholder until the Radeon Pro Vega II is publicly released.

Of course a 128GB LED lighted ram kit is mandatory for the bling factor:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HHL611C/?tag=tonymacx86com-20

Fast M.2 NVME drives are mandatory. Get at least one 1TB drive for macOS. You could put one or two
old platter drives in the Thermaltake case but personally I would opt for a few 2TB Sata SSDs instead.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DFJ3YQR/?tag=tonymacx86com-20

A 1300W PSU because "why not." Go with an 80 Plus Platinum:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00COIZTZM/?tag=tonymacx86com-20

To hold all of this expensive gear you'll want to get a Full Tower EATX case with tempered glass and LEDs.
A Custom Loop is a given to cool a 28 core Xeon W-3175X CPU. Will have much more "cool factor" than the new
2019 Mac Pro Cheese grater ever will. Amazon

So I'd estimate you could possibly come in at around $15,000 to $18,000 USD if you are a patient and skilled PC builder. I've never built a custom loop liquid cooled system so I have no idea what that would cost or how much time it would take. For a build like this I would just hire an experienced pro to build it. To make it really awesome would require a modded classic Mac Pro case (cheese grater version 1) which would be a real challenge to pull off. Not sure it's even possible to do. TBH I really don't like the look of the new 2019 MP at all. Too much function over form for me. I doubt I'll ever consider buying one even when they are older used/refurb machines.

If you really want one of these you'll need to figure out how to come up with the funds.

Would you ?
  1. Take out a 2nd mortgage on your home.
  2. Start buying lottery tickets.
  3. Sell your 4 year old Toyota Corolla.
  4. Hold up your local financial institiution.
Seriously though, your 28 core Xeon will give you some real bragging rights but it's stll going to come in way below the Xeon Platinum in reference to the Multi-core score of the R840 Power Edge server from Dell. That has 112 cores and 224 threads. It does utilize four 28 core Xeons so the price would be much higher than the hack pro. GB results below:

Wow thanks a mil has anyone here posted a build with latest mac Pro 2019 yet or similar hardware?

It's much too limiting to just look at Geekbench scores. With an extra 10 cores and 20 threads, it won't be weaker when you are encoding and decoding video. Renders will be greatly sped up. The new Mac Pro definitely has a a better cooling system so that you can push the 28 core Xeon much harder for longer periods of time. You would certainly need to consider running many more tests related to work with video and audio files than just Geekbench to come to that conclusion.
I agree. The new Mac Pro will have an additional accelerator and graphics cards that will give it a kick. For sure it will find application in 3D and Video programs. But in Audio, what counts is the processor's performance.

So sad the Gigabyte doesn't have a 10G LAN port unlike the Asus! No USB 3.1 gen 2 (10 Gbit/s) either on the Gigabyte.

However, the Gigabyte fits in the Corsair Obsidian 900D which is the only case with 5'25'' bay. That's good news because there's no validated case with 5'25'' bay for the Asus one. I still need Blu-Ray burners...
