I need some advice if this is possible. I have a build in High Sierra with my GTX 1070 for video editing and VFX. I've been running it perfectly for 6 years and then the motherboard died (Gigabyte GA-Z77X UD5H). I bought a 1070 GPU last year and it was working great in High Sierra, now with the lack of Nvidia support in Mojave I don't want to upgrade. So i've just paid for a Gigabyte GA-Z390-AORUS-PRO WIFI, Intel Core i7 8th Gen 8700 3.20 GHZ and Corsair VENGEANCE® RGB PRO 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4 DRAM 2666MHz C16 Memory Kit. Is it possible to upgrade the motherboard, cpu and RAM to the same OS drive (high sierra) that was previously running on the old motherboard? Reallyu don't want to sell my 1070 and get a new supported GPU. Looking for the easiest option

Your new motherboard and CPU should work with High Sierra 10.13.6. So if you were already running 10.13.6 before, then I say you can setup the new motherboard and CPU / RAM, configure the correct BIOS options, and then just allow High Sierra to boot to see if the system comes back up.

Thanks! And is my GTX1070 supported In that version of High sierra? I’m not 100% sure what version I was running but I don’t think it was as current as 10.13.6.

I assume you have Nvidia web drivers installed before? If so the GTX 1070 should work.

The GTX 1070 should work with High Sierra 10.13.6 with the correct version of the Nvidia web driver.

The i7 8700 is supported in High Sierra (all versions), so I say just set up the new system and try to boot High Sierra on it. If successful then update to 10.13.6, install the current Security Update, and update the Nvidia web drivers also.

Thanks you so much for the advise. Waiting for my order and going to start working on it this weekend. Really appreciate the help

Hi Mr.Bond

I've finally installed and setup my new components. I just booted it up on the old High Sierra SSD and it got all the way to the login screen and then froze. What BIOS settings should I configure? Sorry if i'm asking a very basic question. I've never done any BIOS setting changes before. Anything else i should try
