Probably the same reasons most people quit ... having to manually update and check each major/minor upgrade, feeling I didn't have a legitimate system, the F12 problem annoyed me (too low level a solution), the feeling that my system wasn't fully optimised.

It's true, I was lucky to build a stable fully working Hack and was pleased with it, but the above meant I had to manage backups and run checks etc. I just thought "I don't need this overhead". The Win10 alternative was sitting on the other drive. It's got dark mode at last and also my Magic Trackpad 2 works (with 3rd party drivers).

I just changed my default Clover boot disk and that's it.

fyi I am using this patch for the F12 BIOS issue no complicated hack ;-)

I am still amazed how powerful, stable and upgradable my build is compare to my old mac mini/mac pro
maybe like many of us you have this need to update to all the latest version, patience is key with hackintosh

Hmmm. 2 times (in 2.5 days) since going to F12 my machine has not woken from sleep. Monitor seems to wake but not resume DP connection. Then cycles through the inputs (1xDp, 2xHDMI) looking for a signal. Not finding one, the monitor goes to standby.

Not happy about this! Was previously 100% reliable waking from sleep. Maybe I've not set the BIOS settings as they were before. Maybe the F12 upgrade has some glitch. Maybe the modification procedure had some unintended consequence or maybe I didn't do it properly (most likely!).

To try and narrow down to the BIOS version, have gone back to F10. If no sleep problems (a week minimum) (never mind a week, I couldn't wait) then I'll go back to F12 and see if I get them again.

[EDIT] have tested quite a few times under F10 with both light sleep and deep sleep. 100% response so far. Will keep testing and then go back to F12 in a while and see if can reproduce.
If you select "sleep" from the main menu, the screen goes dark but the system LED stays on. After a configurable period ("turn display off after" in Preferences/Energy Saver), the system goes into full sleep and the LED goes off. That's what I mean by light/deep. I'm sure there's better terminology.*

Now I've set my "turn display off after" to only 1 minute, so it goes into full/proper sleep then. This is to help my testing.

After satisfying myself that F10 was okay (i.e. cycling quite a few times through sleep and full sleep) I couldn't wait to go back to F12. Have done that now and have not reproduced any failure to wake. But waiting to see how it performs.

No idea if I caused a problem or not. Have to wait and see. Sleep/wake has always been 100% for me. I like to leave the machine on but sleeping. If ever you try to wake a machine and its light comes on but there's nobody home ... it's a bad feeling :thumbdown

[Edit] * after looking up, there's screen off, then there's sleep and maybe also "safe sleep" or hibernate. I'm not sure what state my machine is in when the system LED is off. That's what I meant by deep sleep, but I don't know. Kind of hard to test. Anyway I went back to F12 and will see what happens.

I have the same. Part bitbwith a 1080ti and running high Sierra. My sleep has never worked. It comes right back on every time. Did u make a custom dsdt for high Sierra? If so could you share it?

I just updated to F13 running Catalina using this patch for the latest BIOS problem

How's it working for you? I'm still using F5 but since updating to Catalina, my sleep has completely broken. Before upgrading I updated all of my kexts and clover but nothing gives. Wondering if upgrading to F10 will fix it...

Hello, sorry to creep up on you guys with a different config, but I just wanted to undeerstand the iGPU settings / patched you are applying.

I have the H170N-WIFI with i5 6500 (it's an alternative office build, not my main build I have in my signature) and I'm trying to run it with both HDMI ports, one using a 4k screen (40hz only sadly) and the second one is a 1080p screen. However, I have to boot only using the 1080p screen (with the 4k screen powered off) and only after booting the system, I can reconnect the 4k screen and use it. By this time, the 1080p screen starts to flicker and I need to power it down, and power on again. After doing that, both screens work.

So, is there a way to remedy this?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi all. Thanks to this great community and this guide, I am using my first hackintosh for over a year now and it's working flawlessly. For everyone willing to make some compromises on the fanless side, I recently found this nice little graphics card: Yeston RX 550. It's one of the very few, maybe the only one with the Radeon Pro WX 4100, that fits into this Streacom FC8 case and works out of the box on Mojave.

You have any luck with it also running Catalina without any hitches @infraroth?

@infraroth does the fan spin down and stop when the temps are low / the card isn't under load? Or does it run all the time?
