[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

User xanderevo says your UAD works. See this thread p.1 . Ask him what adapter he has. But I don't think it makes a difference if you only connect your UAD. Get whatever is cheaper. If it doesn't work swap it or ask for a refund.

Thanks man! Will check. @xanderevo could you help me out with this?

Thanks for the reply!
Neither of those two options worked, unfortunately.

Will be getting a powered USB hub over the next few days. So not too much of an issue but still.

It's weird though. When I plug a USB3.0 stick into the front port, it draws +/- 900 mA. But the iPad doesn't go any higher than 500mA (see screenshots).

Edit: come to think of it, that makes some sense considering the iPad runs on USB 2.0. Yet, I don't understand why it's not properly loading even though it's supposedly maxing out its draw?

Added to my to-do list for the weekend. Will try it with my 4th-gen iPad mini and 2018 iPad Pro. Which iPad are you using?

So, this store has both, the Thunderbolt Cable + TB2 to TB3 apple adapter, and also the Startech Adapter,. The thing is that the sellers at that store are not really capable of knowing the difference. So I guess it is better to go for the Startech adapter in that case? Also, there's no further information on the Apollo box; it doesn't say if it is TB1 or TB2. I guess is TB1? Sorry for so many questions, and thanks for your help :)

The UAD Apollo Twin MkII is a Thunderbolt 2 device and will work on Designare Z390 with either the Apple TB3-to-TB2 adapter or the Startech Adapter.

I-registry attached and at present this is the device setting.....
AAPL,ig-platform-id - 0300923E
Your iGPU is also configured and working properly in headless mode with device ID 0x3E92 and platform ID 0x3E920003. Because you have the 8th Gen Core i7-8700K, these values are fine.

Last weekend I ran Intel Power Gadget and observed small fluctuations in the green line (i.e. the iGPU load) while Quick Looking at multiple large JPEGs in a row. Will see if I can stress the iGPU by performing other tasks. But I certainly don't get a flat line (10.14.5).

For those interested in getting the stock Intel CNVi Bluetooth going with this board, I just wrapped up a short guide here.
We attempted this procedure in early February, but decided that the cons significantly outweighed the pros. For very simple applications it may be okay. My conclusions are captured here, but I'll repeat:
There seem to be various issues with CNVi Bluetooth -- the option to "Turn Bluetooth Off" is disabled, sleep may not work, some devices may not connect, Windows is necessary to initialize the device, if you unplug power then you'll have to run Windows again to re-initialize the device, etc.

For all these reasons, turning on CNVi Bluetooth is not a good idea. The Broadcom 94360CS2 card is so cheap and works flawlessly and entirely within MacOS. I do not see a valid justification for enabling CNVi...

@xanderevo understands the limitations and is using it for very limited applications. (No Handoff/Continuity/etc.) But to enable this for everyone is not a good thing!

After a day or two, even xanderevo disabled CNVi and installed a BCM94360-series card.

Also, some things to keep in mind:
  • An empty unused PCIe slot is a wasted slot.
  • If a slot is used for something, it is not a wasted slot. ;)
  • Only when you completely run out of slots and need to install another card, then you might need to reprioritize the existing cards and remove the least important one.
And some more things to keep in mind:
  • Intel's 10th generation Ice Lake chipset has built-in Thunderbolt 3, built-in WiFi 6 (IEEE 802.11ax), and built-in Bluetooth 5.x.
  • If Apple introduces a new machine next year with Ice Lake, why would Apple spend extra money on a Broadcom WiFi/BT chip when that functionality is already baked into Ice Lake?
    • So it's conceivable that Apple will simply release an Intel WiFi/BT driver natively in a future version of macOS.
  • Will that new driver work with the Intel CNVi module that is already in our Designare motherboard?
    • Maybe it will.
      • In that case we can free up the PCIe slot containing our Broadcom WiFi/BT module.
      • Remember that the BCM94360 is getting old and does not support Bluetooth 5.x.
      • But it works exceptionally well and imparts a lot more of the overall Mac experience right now.
    • Maybe it won't.
      • In this case Intel might release a new CNVi module that just might work with MacOS 10.15.x.
UPDATE: Built-in WiFi 6 may not be as simple as I described above. According to AnandTech, there are 2 parts to the implementation:
  • Media Access Controller (MAC). This will be on the chipset. I believe Z390 also has this for WiFi 5.
  • RF Module. This is a separate module with the transmitter/receiver and accompanying circuits. It may continue to be provided as a CNVi card.
  • Unfortunately, this means Apple may not support CNVi even if it adopts Ice Lake.

Alright! Powered usb hub just arrived though and appears to work fine. But still curious to see if you experience the same, and might be of help to others of course :)

I thought I had a 1st gen Ipad Air 16gb (that's what I bought anyway, a refurb), but the thing says it's actually an MD792NF/A, so the 32gb/4g model! Indeed it shows 32gb and (empty) 4g stats. Its only used for Logic Remote, but I couldn't resist a laugh when I found out I must've been lucky or something!

I have noticed that when I arrive home my PC wakes up; turns out that proximity wake feature works. I don't know when it started to work. I don't know if it's related to the latest iMac SMBIOS or not.

But this is what I found in pmset log:
2019-05-31 01:31:08 AppWakeReason AppWoke:com.apple.bluetoothd Reason:proximity Wake
2019-05-31 01:31:08 Assertions PID 56(powerd) Created InternalPreventSleep "Assertion to change proximity monitoring state" 00:00:00 id:0x0xd00009d6b [System: PrevIdle SRPrevSleep kCPU]

Very nice to have this feature working on a hackintosh.
I didn't realize that that was even a thing! :)

Was proximity-wake triggered by your Apple Watch? Or with an iOS device (iPhone)?

I’ve disabled this by following the instructions in the post below and setting pmset -a proximitywake 0 in terminal. My computer kept waking up if my iPhone X was in the room.

This post is not related to Mac functionality. It is about RGB in your system.

The last 3 parts of my system are being shipped and I have a question about RGB capabilities. I ordered the Raijintek Orcus 280 RBW with addressable fans and controller hub. I opted for some Silicon XPOWER RGB ram which is Gigabyte Fusion friendly. And I have the same Phanteks EvolvX case.

My understanding is the motherboard (RGB Fusion) is incompatible with the case and fan because the header on the MB is 12v. I'm not sure what would be required to connect the fan and case to synchronize their LED systems, but I suspect the 3 pin connector in the case will connect to the Raijintek controller hub - possibly needing an adapter.

Can you shed some light on this?

P.S. I tried searching just this thread on 2 different computers and it searches the entire forum.

Logs don't specify, and I have both so it's hard to tell.

I know it existed, but didn't thought it was working on hacks. It's a nice feature, I don't mind it.
