Hi,

I recently upgraded to a Sapphire RX 580 Nitro+ graphic card.

Generally I'm pretty happy with it and I'm not a hardcore gamer but, just form time to time, play games like Dota 2 or Fortnite.

Since I installed the new card, I'm able to play at 1980x1080 at HIGH video settings and still get 60+ fps.

The problem I have is I get intermittent hiccups which drop the frame rate as low as 10-20 fps, and I can't figure out why.

I also have a i5-4460 and 16GB DDR3 RAM.

Anyone experiencing similar problem?

Please don't suggest to dual boot to Windows. I don't like gaming THAT much ;)

Thanks

It could be the hit of shader compilation.

Do you have multiple monitors? There's also a bug that was introduced in Mojave that causes 3d accelerated apps (metal OR openGL) to temporarily tank their frame rate if there are multiple active monitors. They still haven't fixed it and have given no indication when they will.

Thanks, but no. Single monitor. I have recently disabled the Intel GPU and seems better, or maybe is just my impression :)

Ist complex. Can bei some bugs in the game can be some in the Apple graphics driver - whichs inst that optimized / bugfree for all games s AMD does it for win.
And of course may not only GPU related, means bug happens more to the cpu / ram management of the game which runs into short FPS lowerage.
You could check that ( more gpu related or more an bug related to CPU / RAM management) by lower the games res to 1200x720 or other lower res.
You willl get more max FPS , sure, but keep an eye an the minimal FPS (if games has FPS counter!) . If now the min FPS didnt get less than 1/3 (60 FPS vs 10 -20 FPS High Res) than its more gpu related. If also massive FPS breal downs , for example 100+ FPS max down to 15 - 25 FPS (only a bit more min FPS that with HIGH RES!) its more some prob with CPU / RAM than the gpu. But doesnt matter why - you cant fix that. Maybe with an newer i7 CPU + DDR4 32 GB the minimal FPS wont get that low to 10-20 FPS, but perhaps also doen to 20-30 FPS (from average 60+ FPS)
