DaVinci Resolve 15: AMD Radeon VII 16GB Performance

The Radeon VII is a very interesting card for DaVinci Resolve due to its 16GB of VRAM which is twice what you would get from a similarly priced NVIDIA GPU. But is it able to keep up in terms of raw performance?

RED 4k/6k playback is very good on my end with the RED player. Not as good as CUDA with 2080Ti though.

I see folks worrying about whether kgp is coming back or not, and I'm sure they're wondering how we all would continue on without his guidance and technical expertise.

kgp is gone, folks, and I really doubt he's coming back.

I think it's really important to note that while we all benefited from kgp's SSDTs, they are not mandatory. They're great, they're convenient, they give lots of nice and potentially useful information, but they are not required. For instance, I removed every single one of the SSDT.aml's in the ACPI/Patched folder and rebooted. System came up fine, and everything worked just as it had before. I worked on it for half a day, and didn't encounter any issues.

The guy who is working on Hackintool (headkaze) may eventually provide another resource for SSDTs, as he recently added that capability to Hackintool. I think it's still really early in his development of this tool and that facility, but in time, he just might get that issue resolved.

Yes, kgp was great but he's not here anymore and it's time to move on.

Have you check RED Helium Playback with the Radeon?

I don't have any Helium footage at this time. If you have some that I can download I'd be happy to test and post results.

I´m switching to a Ramapage Vi, but I can´t to do a AQC107 working yet. (detected, loaded, but no wire detection)
I'm using the last Bios 1704, Aquantia patch in kext to patch and SSDT-X299-ACQU.aml. And you???

I setup a hackintosh following the Kgp's guide, based on motherboard
Asus Prime X299-A and High Sierra 10.13.6. System is up and running fine since october 2018.

Now I'm wondering whether it is possible to upgrade the MacOS to version 10.14 following
the standard Apple automatic procedure, or there is the possibility to screw up everything ?

Yes, just update clover and kexts prior to update. I'm using the same mobo and I'm running fine on 10.14.5, so ask for any help (got a Vega 64 too).

If the process will be simply to update clover bootloader and configurator + kexts (and eventually SSDTs) I think we will have no problems maintaining our builds updated. KGP did a good job and we all have basic competence to do stuff from now on. Dunno anything about this Hackintool, can you be more specific?
