[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

I'm about to embark on this build, it's my my first hack.... The machine's built and I'm ready to begin tweaking the OS but there's one thing that's taken me a little thinking to wrap my head around...

If I clone my Mac Pro drive would I just need to install clover onto the cloned drive then begin the clover/ mount EFI/add kexts, etc process and go from there? Or is it be advisable to clean install for any reason?
I always advise a fresh installation onto a brand new machine. A fresh installation clears away years of accumulated baggage and provides a more stable foundation for the future. From a strictly technical point of view you should be able to move the old HD to the new machine and configure EFI/Clover. @pastrychef has had success with this method. The choice is yours...

Also, anyone have issues with more than 2 sticks of RAM?
The machine posts with 2 installed but won't with 4. Tried different slot configurations etc... More than 2 sticks and nada...
What is the make and model of your DIMM? I have four G.Skill TridentZ modules and have never encountered a problem. XMP 2.0 compliant memory modules are recommended.

I just completed the update. a minor note--I didn't experience the horizontal purple lines on the black apple logo screen--perhaps due to having the RX590 rather than the RX580.
Hopefully others will describe their experience as well. The random purple lines might just be limited to some RX 580 models. The moment I saw those lines my heart skipped a beat. Scary, in a first-world-problem sort of way!

I have the same lines on 560.

No Purple lines for me with Sapphire Pulse RX580
To clarify this was with HDMI.
I did have purple lines with DP.

I've been struggling with more system freezes lately which forces me to hard reset my computer using the case reset button. Been trying to pinpoint the culprit for a while now before seeking help here but I'm having a hard time detecting any patterns. I did run Memtest and my RAM passes just fine.

I've attached some txt files containing excerpts of lines from my Console system.log File before I reset my machine. The line that contains "BOOT_TIME" is the reset point. I thought it was Dropbox or Cubase but the system is starting to lock up more often outside of using those programs. The freezing has been occurring more frequently as well. Hoping someone is able to see something that I'm not seeing.

Last night I had my first ever kernel panic while shutting down my machine.

Might also be worth noting that when booting into safe mode, I noticed that snapshot 2 of 7 displayed an error saying "AppleUSBHostPort::disconnect: persistent enumeration failures". I'm going off memory here but I believe that in the past, that message was not displayed. Maybe my problem is USB related?

Kind of scratching my head on this one.

Currently on 10.14.4.

Thank you!

1. What BIOS version are you running?
2. Do you have CSM Support enabled or disabled.
3. How many disks/hard drives/M.2's are connected?
4. Was the current install an upgrade or fresh install?

1. F6
2. CSM is disabled
3. 3 drives total
  • Samsung 970 Evo (system)
  • Samsung 860 Evo
  • WD Caviar Black
4. Upgrade — initial install was 10.14.2 I believe.

Thanks!

I had a similar problem, same error. If I remember correctly it was following the install instructions carefully that corrected it, with the files @CaseySJ has in his post install instructions.

I will if needed, but I have about 1000 instrument and VST/AU plugins, multiple DAWs and wave editors I use, etc... Reinstallation alone takes me one to two days. Authorization at least the same. (Maybe it's time to sell some plugins o_O)

Same actually. TridentZ, 3200, brand new from Newegg. Bought as 2 pairs with the same latencies so shouldn't be an issue as far as I know... The weird thing is that both pairs post on their own but won't post if all 4 are installed. Anyway if I can't figure it out I'll reach out to G Skill and see what they say.

Hi! I wanted to make a hackintosh as my main PC. As components for now I thought of putting an i7-9700K. While as GPU, I think I use my Nvidia (GTX 1080 Ti) which I know is not natively compatible on Mojave,. For the motherboard I was still very undecided between this Gigabyte Designare Z390 or a GIGABYTE Z390 AORUS Ultra. Can anyone tell me which one is the best?

Furthermore I am not very experienced on hackintosh, I have created others in the past, but without having great compatibility problems. I installed and worked perfectly. First, for hardware I used an i7-4790K and an ASUS ROG formula VI, and as GPU GTX 690 ..... that worked very well, but now it is broken due to lightning .....I apologize for my bad English grammar ...
