[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

I followed this guide and have a successful build. I am currently testing for stability. I will say the weird thing is that I had better luck throughout the install process by removing the -v boot argument throughout my multiple attempts before getting it past the 13 minutes to go stage.

I followed the directions, but can't even get to step one. I just get this within seconds of the "Apple" log flashing on the screen. I think I am missing something very simple.
Your USB installer isn't being seen at all. Try using a USB 2 flash drive in a USB 2 port. Use one of those ports that are above the PS/2 port on the back panel.

Casey, I wanted to thank you for putting the little work I did into your method.
Thank you

Thanks. I re-read the directions (fixed stupid typos) and am now getting about 25 lines of code on the screen - ending with "Start ReadKernelCache" and then nothing happens.
I'll sleep on it, redo all my steps and try again tomorrow. Just call me dense... but persistent.

Hey! Thank you!
I am using the default configuration from the thread starter, so I suppose all ports are working correctly right now.
I would like to "redirect" the rear USB3 Ports (HS07 / SS07) and the internal USB3 header (HS06/SS06) which I don't use to the Inateck card. The ports I just specified would be alright to disable on Mac OS X since I do not use them at all. The functionality of the other ports should not be impacted (USB-C ports and USB 3.1).
Would that be possible? :)

EDIT: Sorry. You must have changed your profile picture. Of course - you are the thread starter... *facepalm*
Please try the attached USB SSDT. I'm sure you know how to install it, but just in case:
  • Mount EFI partition of Mojave SSD
  • Move out (or delete) the existing SSDT-UIAC-DESIGNARE-Z390-V6.aml from CLOVER/ACPI/patched
  • Copy the attached file into CLOVER/ACPI/patched
  • Reboot
A total of 15 USB ports are still defined in the new USB SSDT. The changes are:
  • HS07 disabled
  • SS07 still enabled -- you may plug USB 3 devices into all 4 of the ports governed by the hub at SS07
  • HS06 disabled
  • SS06 disabled
Activated the following USB 2 virtual ports:
  • HS01 -- this is USB 2 on the front panel USB-C connector
  • HS08 -- this is USB 2 on the top Thunderbolt 3 port
  • HS13 -- this is USB 2 on the bottom Thunderbolt 3 port

Hi @CaseySJ,
I am sorry for my previous post. I wasn't very clear. I actually understood what you meant when I read an other guide because it was written an other way, so then i got it. Maybe you could add a screenshot in the future for new user like me?

Anyway, thanks a lot for your guide!! I have now my computer running, and I am very happy. It was a bit scary for me to try a hackintosh build but your guide is so well made, it made it totally possible for me to follow.
Now my computer is running (1st try!), Wake/sleep work, all USB work (I mean, they recognize my mouse), no weird things are happening. I didn't tested iCloud, iMessage or similar, because I am not using any of those services. I can't check WiFi/BT because the card isn't connected yet. (I need the adapter to plug it.) But I don't need it now actually.

However, I got a few questions:
- What should I test to see my computer is running properly? Any special things I should check?
- How do I know if the displayed resolution is 4K? (My monitor is 4K.)
- I am using a Vega 64 Sapphire Nitro+. Are the steps in "Vega Fan and Power Control" mandatory? My graphic card is in the PCIe Slot 2 because my fan (Noctua NH-D15) is blocking the way for the PCIe Slot 1.
- How do I know if my fans (both GPU and Case) are running at the good speed?
- I did the whole post-installation process, but some menu in technical info aren't displaying the same

Thanks a lot for your support (and anybody else on this forums). It's really cool!
Hello @Mochimino,

Glad to hear the build went well!

Your questions:
  • What should I test to see my computer is running properly? Any special things I should check?
    • In the spoiler labeled "State of the System AFTER Post-Installation" located here, you may compare your system against the screenshots in the spoiler. Some of the screenshots may look different (especially "Graphics/Displays") so it's okay to expect some differences.
    • You can also run some benchmarking software (GeekBench, Cinebench, Blackmagic Disk Speed Test, Ookla SpeedTest (for WiFi / Ethernet speed), VideoProc --> Setting --> Options to check if acceleration is available for HEVC and H.264.
  • How do I know if the displayed resolution is 4K? (My monitor is 4K.)
    • Select About this Mac from the Apple menu on the top left, then select the Displays tab. Do you see 4K resolutions displayed?

  • I am using a Vega 64 Sapphire Nitro+. Are the steps in "Vega Fan and Power Control" mandatory? My graphic card is in the PCIe Slot 2 because my fan (Noctua NH-D15) is blocking the way for the PCIe Slot 1.
    • If the fans in your Vega card are not spinning at maximum RPM, but are spinning "normally" then I would skip this. Apple will soon release Mojave 10.14.5, which is expected to have much better native support for Vega fans and power curves. So I would recommend to wait for 10.14.5.
  • How do I know if my fans (both GPU and Case) are running at the good speed?
    • Mostly by ear! If the fans are very loud then there's a problem. But if fans are relatively quiet, then no problem.
  • I did the whole post-installation process, but some menu in technical info aren't displaying the same
    • Some of my screenshots will be different from yours. This is okay. But if you are concerned about something specific, feel free to post a screenshot.

HI CaseySJ ! This few words just to thank you very much for your extremely clear "How to"! I made my build today, and it was so easy with your guide. You thought to every details and every place were we could fall...
Thumbs up !!!!
Thank you. Glad to hear it!

Hello,

@CaseySJ , Thanks for the excellent build instructions. My system is stable, everything works and the benchmarks seem in line with what they should be.

My problem is that, in Premiere Pro, is that my system exporting H265 video takes twice as long as my MacBook Pro.
MacBook Pro is 6 core + Radeon 555X 4gig.

I've tried headless Configuration, normal Configuration, Mac Mini 8,1, Imac 18,3. Nothing seems to make any difference. My system is a z390 Designare, i9900K, MSI Armor 580 8GB, 32 Gigs 2400mhz ram, Crucial 1tb M2 NVMe.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Hello @mickguz,

Have you copied the file "SSDT-Z390-DESIGNARE-RX580-V2.aml" to your CLOVER/ACPI/patched folder? This file renames the device from:
  • RX 580
to
  • AMD RX 580
From what I understand, Adobe Premiere Pro prioritizes the GPU whose name appears first alphabetically. So if you have both the MSI Armor RX 580 and the Intel UHD 630 active, the Intel iGPU will take precedence because by default the GPU names are something like this:
  • Intel UHD 630
  • RX 580
The RX 580 SSDT changes the order:
  • AMD RX 580
  • Intel UHD 630
You may check the names of GPUs in System Report --> PCI. Here's what this looks like on my system:

If this does not fix the problem, then I would suggest the following:
  • Try switching to SMBIOS iMacPro1,1
  • Delete the iGPU settings from Devices --> Properties
If you need help with this, just post your config.plist (you may remove serial number from SMBIOS).

EDIT: Also try adding “shikigva=60” to your Boot Arguments.

The first line in the screenshot says OsxAptioFixDrv. Have you installed OsxAptioFix2Drv-free2000.efi in the drivers64UEFI folder? If so, feel free to compress and upload the CLOVER folder from EFI partition of the USB install disk. I can double-check your CLOVER configuration.

Glad you were able to make it through. Are there any lessons to be shared about the issues you encountered?
