[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Hey Again! summing up about a week and a half with the machine, and it's still running great, except for one issue that started coming up - Powering up after shutting down.

If I shut down the computer and try to turn it on again (not through restart, that seems to have less/no issues), I have some difficulty on reaching the desktop again-
Either the monitor is black and stays black (which might be a graphics thing, or something with my monitor, which I won't be surprised about. It behaves the same for both the HDMI output and the TB3 output (with HDMI->dvi cable)), or it gets stuck in clover in "scan entries" (I read some posts about this problem and the suggested fixes didn't help). Usually if I try to restart a couple more times at some point it will work. The only other noticeable issue that might somehow be related is that the TB3 doesn't always connect on startup (I have a tb3 drive that isn't always visible when I turn the computer on).

It's important to mention that if I do a hard reset and turn off the PSU and wait, it will probably start with none of these issues (which is something I do a lot anyway), but I would like to understand and possibly solve what ever it is that's causing this.

Has anyone experienced these issues?

Powerd does appear in activity monitor. Internet says it's related to power management. It's currently using 0.1% CPU (if that matters).

Should I Force Quit the process?

Yes, but sleep issues can be tricky to isolate and resolve, and if you’re not careful, they can be contagious to humans...

I've attached a screenshot of my Energy Saver settings. I'm running non-headless Mac Mini 8.1 (0x3E9B0007, no Device-id). Tried to Force Quit Powerd and sleep again, but that didn't fix it. Really tricky issue.

UPDATE: Happy to say that sleep is now fully working. Had an idea this morning: "Casey told me to unplug all the USB devices, but what about the USB 2.0 header inside the case... "

Unplugged the USB 2.0 header first, and force quit Powerd after boot up. Sure enough, sleep started working.

Through trial and error, I was able to trace it back to the H115i Premium water cooler USB connection. I actually tried plugging it back in and testing and sure enough sleep broke again.

I'm running the USB SSDT with 0xFF at the moment on HS11/HS12 instead of 0x00. The front 2.0 USB ports are actually working as well.

0xFF sets their IDs to "internal non-hot swap" if I understand correctly? Maybe I should try 0x00 if I'm planning to plug stuff into those front ports. Thoughts on this?

TL;DR: Not sure if this applies to all water coolers with a USB port that goes into the 2.0 header, but I successfully fixed sleep on my machine by not plugging the H115i Premium water cooler USB into the mobo.

Good Afternoon All,

Finally got all my equipment, spent all night putting it together. I did all the BIOS changes that were applicable to my mobo, and, when I turn the PC on, I get no video. The only way to get video is either I unplug the Sapphire Pulse RX580 or disable the internal GPU.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First, please try enabling CSM in BIOS with the Sapphire plugged in and set Initial Display Output to PCI Slot 1.

Thanks for all your help. Yeah I have a 3 port hub (the NZXT one). Had Bluetooth, front panel, and the H115i plugged into it. I'll probably leave the H115i unplugged if it will fix sleep.

Now there are 2 devices plugged into the USB 2.0 header (Bluetooth + front panel). Is there a way for me to tell which one the Bluetooth is plugged into? I'll set that one to 0xFF, and the other to 0x00.

One more question: I noticed in Library/Extensions that I only have one FakeSMC.kext. However others have 5... seems like I'm missing some. Is there a way for me to install a stable version of these? I can't really monitor my CPU temps at all right now.

Your configuration looks pretty good with the exception of a couple of small tweaks to config.plist. I would suggest:

• Try the attached modified config.plist that has these changes:
  • Boot --> darkwake = 1 changed to darkwake = 0
  • Devices --> USB Inject = checked, USB Fix Ownership = checked, USB High Current = checked
  • Devices --> Audio --> ResetHDA = checked
• Download the new Post-Install Files.zip and replace the following files:
  • CLOVER/ACPI/patched --> replace SSDT-UIAC-DESIGNARE-Z390-V5.aml with V6.
  • CLOVER/drivers64UEFI --> replace VBoxHFS-64.efi with HFSPlus-64.efi.
