[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Hi all,

Big thanks to CaseySJ for the guide! So recently I have just got Mojave 10.14.4 installed by following it and my hardware are as follow:

- Intel Core i7 8700K
- 32GB DDR4 3000MHz (8GBx4)
- RX 580
- Asus Strix Z390-F Motherboard
- Samsung 860 Evo 1TB as Mojave 10.14.4 Boot Drive [APFS]

Everything has been working fine (sleep/wake/graphics acceleration [iGPU + dGPU]/USB custom patched/audio/etc), however I've been running into a minor issue which is the hackintosh FREEZES after boot few seconds later on login screen WHEN LEFT IDLE (but doesn't usually freeze after logging in). Both keyboard and mouse become unresponsive and there's no KP logs shown on screen, I can only force restart the whole machine and login quickly once it's done booting, but it's annoying. The system would still occasionally and randomly freeze after logging in but mostly when performing tasks that takes up high resources such as video editing in Final Cut Pro X, but it freezes ALL THE TIME on the login screen after boot without logging in/left idle after seconds. There are no signs in the system logs hinting the issue and I have done what I've needed to do such as:

- Disabling XMP profile
- Disabling CPU OC / Enabling SpeedStep
- Disabling trimforce
- Turning off "Put hard drives to sleep when possible" // even though it does help with sleeping properly without freezing
- Verifying that SATA Aggressive Link Power Management is turned off in BIOS
- Verifying kexts installations and USB patches
- Resetting BIOS settings to defaults // but changing what's needed for running Hackintosh

I have also attached a problem reporting/debug file and hope that anyone can help me with this matter as I’m really clueless. Thanks!

Also, is it possible to get "hibernatemode 25" working on this setup? I tried but in Clover boot log it shows that it couldn't locate the sleep image and doesn't know that it's hibernated.

Regards
jj
Hello @yongjiajun, the problem you're describing may be similar to the random freezes encountered by @skroutz999 on his ASUS Maximus XI Hero. Please refer to this thread for ongoing status:

https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/i9-9900k-asus-maximus-xi-hero-rx580-8gb-pulse-random-freezes.270683/page-8

You may want to add your experiences there.

it's tricky acceleration working but fcpx not
If you're running 10.14.4, it's best to use headless platform ID 0x3E980003, remove "device-id", and ensure you have latest Lilu and WhateverGreen. For SMBIOS, use either Macmini8,1 or iMac18,3.

@avtor, @CaseySJ
Thank you very much for your responses.
I attached my EFI files in this message.

The error "macOs could not be installed on your computer clover" has occured in the process #11:
"This begins Phase 2 of the installation process. Mojave installer will usually say 15 Minutes Remaining or 30 Minutes Remaining."

The bootable USB I used was created using Unibeast 8.3.2 (for High Sierra).
My concern is that since I didn't download a complete version of high sierra from App Store and just got the incomplete version (22MB), I made the installer according to the following method.

My another concern is that I didn't set GPU in PCIe card slot.

These points are crucial for the installing process?
Some comments:
  • You will need the complete High Sierra installer (between 5 and 6 GB).
  • If you encounter the error again during Step 11 (or any other), please open the Installer Log from the Tools menu (CMD-L?) and grab a screenshot of the error.

Sorry, I forgot to mention another different point from the first page of this thread.
There is no BIOS option for "Extreme Memory Profile (X.M.P.)": BIOS version is F5.
This option should be available from the M.I.T. section of BIOS (Classic Mode, not "Easy Mode"). Also ensure that your RAM supports XMP 2.0.

I'm having really annoying USB issues with this build

- My keyboard keeps adding random spaces or letters when I type, I get either double letters or spaces.
- My USB audio interface fails to initialise on boot (have to re-plug it in) and also get the odd crackle - My mouse sometimes lags or freezes.

Any idea what could be causing this I've tried different USB ports.
Some things to check:
  • In BIOS, enable Thunderbolt USB Support (see Post #1 BIOS Settings).
  • Install the new Thunderbolt SSDT from Post-Install Files.zip at the bottom of Post #1.
    • Filename: SSDT-Z390-DESIGNARE-TB3HP-V4.aml
  • What is the make and model of your USB Audio Interface?
  • Which USB port is it connected to?
  • Have you disabled the USB port limit patches in config.plist --> Kernel and Kext Patches?

hi Casey,

noob question: when you say to use this platform ID, should I put it into Clover's "Graphics" section or in "Devices" section together with framebuffer-patch-enable??

thanks

Thanks Man, I find the problem, the PCI extension cable is the problem, IM using a thermaltake core p5, I remove the cable adapter, connect the RX580 direct to the Mobo, the problem is gone, here is the IORegistryExplorer just in case, now I'm using the HDMI port and is working but the image flickers ones in a wile, (Im think is the HDMI cable is old), maybe i have a bad setting somewhere, I was moving the setting a little bit trying to find the problem.
At this point I don't know if everything is correct. Iwil aprecite all your help!!!
Also the Radeon RX580 have to more display ports, can I use any of this ones to? I dont have any adapter Is why Im asking before buying. Im buying a HDMI any recommendation?
Thanks again for all your help.

It should be added to the Devices --> Properties section along with framebuffer-patch-enable. The Clover Graphics page should be completely empty.

I'm actually using Orinoco with my RX 580. Should I leave it blank as well?

If you added Orinoco because of a black screen problem with the RX580, then yes you should keep it.
