[Guide] Install High Sierra or Mojave on the Dell Optiplex 7010 / 9010 Desktop PC - Revision II

Just connect up your SSD and it will work as long as it's the same board and form factor i.e. 9010 MT if that is what you have now. On Ebay look at the pics. Each MT board (7010 or 9010) has 4 sata ports, the DT boards only have three. That's the only real way to tell them apart. Check with the seller to know exactly what you'll get.

I really don't know for sure if it matters to Apple, if that gets checked by their servers. Give it a try as is and see if all Apple services work or not. The board serial numbers we generate are not real Apple serial numbers anyway. Generate a new one if you'd like, it shouldn't make any difference. I know you can replace a genuine Apple board and keep the same Apple ID registered serial #.

I have seen a few Windows systems (Win 8, Win 8.1 or 10) which use the UEFI features kinda freak out with a motherboard change - as I think there may be something written to NVRAM or something else. Had to boot with the OS disk and run a "safe boot / repair" and then after getting to the desktop....shut down and reboot without - and it worked fine.

I know this is a MAC, just may want to have your UNIBEAST handy (just in case).

Agreed with trs96 about just replacing the MB. I had to replace mine, and it was $22 US on eBay (with the shipping). I also bought a 300W power supply for my OP7010 Desktop model from there. I was not taking any chances that it was MB only. Took me less than 30 mins to swap them both out (be careful when taking out the MB, there are a few wires tucked away which are hard to see).

Also wanna make sure you have FLASHED BIOS on the MB and setup the BIOS settings - BEFORE you ever connect the OSX SSD. You want it as close to the other one as possible (saying that the serial number and MAC address will have changed is a given). You may have some errors about networking when you boot the first time. I know I got them when I switched out a wireless board.

@Grizz how is that new Wifi card working out ? Let us know.

Not had a chance to install it yet. I have a new puppy, and dealing with a few other things around the house now that Spring is here.

Plus I need to swap out the bracket.

I will be sure and post an update when I get it installed.

Does the verbose boot get any further than CS_runtime or does it go further ?

Is everyone having a problem on their Hackintosh's upgrading to 10.14.4 ? I got notices over the weekend that there was an update - but I have not attempted it.

When I was working with 10.13 - and got the notice to update, it got caught in an update loop and would never complete it. Also every time it rebooted, I had 3 options to boot from (RECOVERY, and 2 OSX options from the HDD in the Clover menu). One took me back to the OS and again wanting to UPGRADE - the other one would never boot.

What do we do about trim with Samsung or other non apple brand SSD's in these builds?
sudo trimforce enable?

Also Iv'e noticed trim is not enabled on my two ssd's and also that two of the internal sata ports (with apfs ssd's) are reporting link speed as 6gbs and negotiated link speed of 6gbs in system report, yet the other two with mechanical drives are reporting link speed as 6gbs and negotiated link speed of 3gbs.

I have 2 KINGSTON SSDs in my OP 7010 DT. By default TRIM is not enabled on NON-APPLE SSDs, but you can force it, which I have done. You do see a tiny bit of performance boost - especially on BOOT. But from other stuff I have read - APFS does not need it....and it can possibly cause problems.

Step 1. Open A Terminal Prompt

Once you’ve opened a Terminal Prompt type in the following command:

sudo trimforce enable

Step 2. Reboot your Mac

Step 2. Verify TRIM is enabled

  1. Click on the Apple Icon on the top menu bar and then click on “About this Mac”
  2. Click on System Report and check if TRIM support is enabled under SATA

trim-enabled

Here is an article that I found interesting.
Apple File System (APFS): What you need to know

Currently it is NOT enabled on my drives (10.13 or 10.14). As some of the forums around say corruption can occur.

Dell Optiplex 7010 #2 and #5 on Amazon Best Sellers List
The DT version with i5-3470 has moved up to the second spot. SFF model with i7 and 16GB of ram is now at #5. The older HP is a Core 2 Duo model. Amazing those run Win10 with no problems. An SSD makes them usable. The picture under #5 is actually the DT and not the SFF version. As it usually is, the HP 8300 SFF is #1 again.

Does it boot normally without the BT dongle plugged in ?
Either delete those Bcrm kexts and try again or leave them there and upload your problem reporting files.
Use the script by blackdragon 74.
After some tinkering, I deleted all of those kexts, removed the Bluetooth dongle and it still wouldn't boot with that ssdt.aml in the patched folder. I'll work on getting those error reporting files together if I'm ambitious today.

tyvm....
ill give that a go and also research more. there were some threads that suggest longer booting times with trim enabled as in Mojave the housework on the blocks is done at boot time.

if you have a look at the cpu ssdt ceation guide it points you to the ssdt generation script but there is also another branch of the same script (beta and not beta) you might want to try both branches.
