macOS 10.13.6 Update

To be clear, the system works fine - no graphics issues. I only get the black screen ‘hang’ is when I try to shut down or restart. When the system starts, it fully boots and is fully usable. It is just ‘stuck’ trying to install the update and failing when I reboot/shut down.

Ok, that's different to whatever you've said before (or I misunderstood). It seems to be a problem with Clover. Review your config and, if you have any backup, use it. Something has changed, but I can't tell you what is it (did you update clover? If you didn't, try it).

Or just try to do what the other user wrote you: uninstall completely all Nvidia Drivers and try to restart with Default Mac OS graphic drivers. If the problem are the Nvidia drivers it should be fixed.

casuistics made me be cautious.
New word for me... "Casuistry (/ˈkæzjuɪstri/) is a process of reasoning that seeks to resolve moral problems by extracting or extending theoretical rules from a particular case, and reapplying those rules to new instances. ... The word casuistry derives from the Latin noun casus ("case" or "occurrence")." Not sure how that word applies here, but "whatever."

After starting the 'install' boot option in 'verbose' mode I am suspecting it may be an apfs issue. I have an older x58a system that uses legacy, not uefi boot. Installing Legacy Boot Clover does NOT put the ApfsDriverLoader-64 in place (at least not from either Multibeast or the stand alone Clover installer on this site) and I still have apfs.efi in place.

Is there an equivalent ApfsDriverLoader-64 for legacy boot mode?

Update: I have tried Clover 4630 (from MultiBeast) and Clover 4862 (from the stand alone package). I have also tried uninstalling the NVidia drivers. No change - system no longer shuts down or restarts properly and security patch won't install.

Casuistic is a word that comes from a "set of cases". My experiences -or group of cases- do my casuistic (the end "s" of the word has slided).

Hope it helps you.

Have Not had a problem with these updates for a long time. This one is a problem for me though. I'm stuck with 10.13.6 (17G5019). I've tried SU and combo update. Both fail to install the update. Just keeps getting stuck in the process and restarts. I've tried successive times to boot into InstallMacOS and it always fails and restarts. Not sure what to do next. Even when I first restart after downloading the update, the "installing update" bar never moves.

Please note that Apple has released updated verison of 2019-002 (17G6030) security update. So if you already installed 2019-002 (17G6029) you have to install it once again.

Help Please!

After security update 2019-02, computer boots directly into the below:

My Clover menu loaded significantly slower after the security update (17G6029). I solved it by deleting the Clover folders within EFI, reinstalled MultiBeast, and dragged back the config.plist that I saved as a backup before. Now it just needs about 1 second to load the Clover menu, comparing to almost 30 seconds before.

17G6030 did not cause the issue.
