How to build your own iMac Pro [Successful Build/Extended Guide]

I never used more than one Vega on my system, but it is commonly know that at least two Vegas work without any issues under macOS, while you have to dedicate separate SSDTs for you each of the Vegas in use by considering the respective slot population.

I remember that @flymovies was using a hybrid Vega/Nvdida system by employing his Vega under macOS and his Nvidia under Windows (no web driver installed under macOS). I myself consider Vega/Nvidia hybrid configurations under macOS as critical and I would rather strongly discourage from such macOS hardware configurations. Maybe somebody else successfully driving a Vega/Nvidia hybrid configuration under macOS can oppose my personal impressions.

Thus I would rather recommend two stay with Nvidia in your case or opt for respective multi-Vega but Vega only implementations.

I used HD7950 (for viewport) and a GTX580s (for CUDA) in one system some time ago without problems. I wanted to do it again because of AMD great support (theoretically) in macOS.

I’m currently running a vega frontier and rtx 2080 ti combo and it’s been working so far. I just null out the rtx card in Mac OS with a SSDT so it doesn’t show up and I disable the vega in windows via device manager. Disabling the Vega in windows makes the fan run at full speed so it’s not ideal until I can get it under water. So it’s entirely doable but not sure if ideal.
I’m not gaming as much as I thought I would though so I might just end up selling both and switching to a vega vii once there is native support in Mac OS to clean things up a bit. Should also be enough gaming hp for me.

I have similar effect if I simply don't install Nvidia web drivers - Vega works great and Nvidias are visible as 3MB cards in this case.
Thanks for info but I need both Vega and Nvidia(s) working in macOS.

Ah sorry, misread thinking you just needed amd.

How important is the memory speed? I have installed 4x16GB (64GB) of Corsair Vengeance DDR4 2666MHz. I am having trouble getting my system to boot from the M.2 drive after installing High Sierra to it.
As long as the memory speed is supported (2666MHz surely is) and set correctly in BIOS it will not be the cause for problems like yours.
Maybe check if it works in Windows (if possible) and remove 2 modules to rule out any hardware issues.

To further help (others) analysing your problem you might boot in verbose mode and check at which step the boot hangs.

Talking about the Vega being part of the iMacPro, it does work OoB on the respective Apple device. Also all commercial Vegas including the Vega Frontier do also work OoB on Hackintosh systems, as long as one does not need to use all DP and HDMI ports and also as long one one does not aim at Display Hotplug, multi-monitor support and proper sleep/wake functionality.

Hi there, I am building a two Vega 64 system and would like to have three monitors connected to the system. Would that be possible? If not, uff, this is pretty a show stopper to my project!

Thank you very much for any details and guidance on this!

After several failed attempts I am going to take another stab at getting my first Hackintosh up and running.

Can someone please help with some newbie questions?

I have created a bootable usb drive using UniBeast 8.3.2 - High Sierra.

What am I supposed to do with the X299-EFI-Folder-Distributions content that is mentioned on the first page of this thread? Is this used for the post-install?

I have a GeForce GTX 1080 Ti graphics cards. Which driver should I be using with High Sierra, where do I download it and during which step of the installation process do I install it?

Thanks.

C.) Important General Note/Advice and Error Prevention

So if I understand the instructions in section "C." correctly, I do not use UniBeast at all?

All of the steps of making the USB installer flash drive are performed manually?

I am trying to follow the steps in section "C." and the Build_Clover.command file is different.

It no longer has [export PATH=] as shown on line 31.

Can anyone please explain what to do here?

I'm sure you figured it out by now... That line isn't in the script anymore, as it is no longer needed..
