Fixing boot0 Error Question

Status

Hi,

I used iboot version 3.30 and the version of multibeast for SL when I setup and installed SL. The installation is currently at 10.6.8 installed via the 10.6.8 combo update. My current issue is fixing the boot0 error. The boot0 error guide is a little
confusing with respect to getting to the utilities menu after booting from iboot and then selecting SL. I'm currently on the SL desktop and trying to figure out the next steps so I can unmount the hd and enter the terminal command to resolve the
boot0 issue.

Thanks,

Hi Adrian B, for some unknown reason, the unmount option is greyed out so I can't select it. THis is true whether I select from the menu or selecting the hd in question and right-clicking on it.

Thanks,

Do you have an old unused drive that you can use to install Snow Leopard on even if it is just for a temporary period of time to sort out this issue?

To ADrian B, unfortunately I do not have any other drives available to use with this issue.

THanks,

Let me explain the issue that we have. You cannot unmount the drive that you are using as this would unmount the installation that was booted.

The normal solution would be to connect via another mac or hack the problem drive via USB - see the "Solution 2: Use a SATA > USB Adapter" section more further details.

All you need to do is buy a used 3.5" HDD either locally on Ebay. Make sure it's old enough to not have 4K sectors. On Ebay find a reputable seller that has pictures to show the date of manufacture. It should be before 2011. A drive from 2009 would be perfect. Size doesn't matter, it can even be just 80 or 160GB in size and it will work.
As all hard drive manufacturers agreed to transition to the Advanced Format sector design by January 2011, the industry has adapted to and embraced this change to minimize potential negative side effects.

Here's a reputable seller on Ebay. Even has 1 year warranty.

Here's another seller you can trust with used drives, very low cost.

WD Blue WD5000AAKX 16mb buffer was always a favourite back in the day for avoiding Boot0 error. The drive is also available in 250GB and 320GB variants and shares the WD****AAKX naming.

I have two of these WD drives that I used for testing across several systems for different versions of macOS and tonymacx86 tools about 5 years ago.

I have an old Dell Optiplex 760 (E8400 processor and Radeon 5570 graphics card) running Snow Leopard on a budget 120GB SSD - no 4K drive issues.

Yes, the WD drives back in the day were best. The problem is that sellers want 18-30 dollars for those used. If it's only going to be used short term for SL install, why spend that much ? $8 shipped free is like getting one of these free. Tested by a professional desktop refurbisher in AZ. I don't think there were any 80GB drives made that had 4K sectors.

IN the boot0 error guide, i'm thinking about re-doing the install using solution 1.My questions are as follows:

1) Can unibeast be used with SL?
2) WHat size usb drive is needed fir unibeast?
3) I'm confused about step #4 in solution 1 where is says 'reboot system back into OSX installer' Does that mean to reboot the computer with the SL installer dvd in the pc?

THanks,
