So this has been plaguing me today. I've created a USB drive using the guide, inserted it into a USB 2.0 port. Clover boots fine, but when I then select the drive to boot to macOS, I get an Apple logo for a few seconds before my PC reboots. I've tried booting with nv_disable=1, which makes the system hold the Apple logo a couple seconds longer, but that's all the result I get.

The only steps in the guide that I haven't followed is setting the OS Type to "Other OS", since I can't find this option in the UEFI, and I haven't disabled USB 3.0 since I'm running a Z370 system (and I depend on USB 3.0's speed to do my job properly).

What can I do?

Your hardware may be too new to be supported in El Capitan.
The GTX 1060 is definitely not supported.

Would it be an option then to use the iGPU, update to High Sierra, install the Nvidia drivers, and then switch back over to the GTX 1060? If so, how would I go about that? Can that be done in the BIOS?

Update: yes, it can be done in the BIOS by switching from PCI-E graphics to onboard in the chipset configuration. However, the problem persists.

Coffee Lake hardware is not supported on El Capitan.
You will need macOS High Sierra 10.13.0 or higher.
