[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

** Gigabyte Released Final F6 BIOS on 15 March, 2019 **

If you are running BIOS F6a, F6b, or F6c on the Designare Z390, you can try the newly released F6 BIOS (at your own discretion).

Hi @CaseySJ , I have just replaced my BCM94360CS2 to the new one. It seems wifi, BT and Airdrop worksfine , however it does not look like Handoff, Auto-unlock and Continuity work at all. I'm on High Sierra though, but per Apple it should still work. Do you know what I would be checking?
Glad to hear the new card is working. Does it have firmware 20702?

Regarding Handoff, have you checked-on that little checkbox right there?

And in the Security/Privacy preferences page do you see an option to "Allow Apple Watch to Unlock this Mac"?

This is a longshot, but worth trying...

Because you're using a Sapphire card, please try setting Framebuffer to Orinoco in Clover Configurator --> Graphics.

If anyone here has a Sapphire RX 580 and a 4K monitor, do you also get a black screen when booting to a 4K display?

I'll check my MSI Gaming RX 580 later this evening.

I have a Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 580 and a Samsung 4K monitor and HDMI is the port working. DP starts out fine but when boot is finished I get black screen no matter how I configure, via the graphics card ports or going through the Thunderbolt ports and using DP. I much prefer DP over HDMI and have been considering moving to a different video solution.

Hey Casey...
In my never-ending quest to get BT and Wifi working on my machine I am back.
I purchased the Fenvi card (since none of the other solutions got me anywhere) and installed it in the last long slot on the motherboard. Is there some other config needed, once I installed it I still don't have BT and now I no longer have Wifi.
Kind of at wits end here.
EDIT:
Sorry, in my rush I neglected to add the IOReg an System reports

Hi Casey,

Thanks so much for your wonderful guide. I'm going to be attempting this build over the weekend (just waiting for the last of my parts to arrive). I did have a couple quick questions before starting:
  1. I purchased this Fenvi card here in the time when you were recommending them, but then found out only certain ones work. It says "BCM94360" on the page, which is now a reject in the guide. Is this the same card that you received and tested out? I'm hoping it will work in the long slot, but buying another card is not a big deal.

  2. The Fenvi card I purchased probably won't arrive before I want to attempt the build. Is it okay to build without it and then slot it in after I have everything running?

  3. Since Macs are now supporting 9th gen intel processors, do you think it's wise to wait for a new Mojave version + possible guide update and try to follow that instead? I'm in a weird spot timing wise as you can imagine, since I don't have my system running but am planning to build in the next couple days.

Some people have solved this problem by switching to SMBIOS iMac14,2. Because this can affect your licensed software, here's something you may want to try:
  • Find a spare 16GB USB flash disk and run Disk Utility (you can do this on the Hackintosh).
  • Select "Show All Devices" in Disk Utility and choose the parent name of the USB flash disk.
  • Then format the disk as "MacOS Extended (Journaled)" and "GUID Partition Map".
  • Disk Utility will create both a Mac HFS+ partition and an EFI FAT32 partition.
  • Mount the EFI partition of the USB flash disk.
  • Mount the EFI partition of your Mojave SSD and copy the entire EFI folder from Mojave SSD to the EFI partition on the USB flash disk.
  • Now run Clover Configurator and open config.plist from the USB flash disk.
  • Go to the SMBIOS section and choose "iMac14,2" from the pop-up menu. This will also give you new serial numbers.
  • Copy the new Board Serial Number to the MLB field in RtVariables.
  • Save the file and quit Clover Configurator.
  • Shutdown the Hackintosh.
  • Now unplug all Ethernet cables from the system.
  • Physically remove the WiFi/BT card (be sure to turn power off and unplug from wall before doing this).
  • We want to make sure there is NO NETWORK connection.
  • Connect your monitor using HDMI cable.
  • Boot from the USB disk (press F12 at BIOS Splash screen and select the USB disk).
  • From the Clover Boot Menu, select the normal "Boot macOS from Mojave".
  • Now Mojave will start as "iMac14,2".
  • If everything is okay, reboot the system, but this time connect the DisplayPort cable to the Radeon RX 580.
  • Do you still get black screen from DP connection?
Edit: Another option to try.

@CaseySJ,

you mean chipset? yes - 20702B0, the firmware though is v150 c9318. Locale is still of though - ETSI (but as long as it works ...), the Country is US. It is interesting how the cards in their stock are so random ...

It is saying though all those features are supported (see below) and handoff is checked on the settings. When I tried to do Auto unlock, "Turning on" is showing up forever and ends up with error that it could not connect to my watch.

Ouch! Unfortunately you may have received a defective or fake card.
  • For WiFi, your screenshot is missing the supported PHY modes and has AirDrop channel 0.

  • Your Bluetooth settings are quite broken. You're missing a Bluetooth address (like a MAC address), your "Manufacturer" is Ericsson instead of "Broadcom", there is no Chipset and Firmware data, and the Vendor/Product IDs are not Broadcom.
