Hi there, does your built-in smart card reader work? Mine does not after did try following Rehabman's guide.

Yes! It shows up fine. I didn't do any modifications... I did do a Migration Assistant move of my previous system High Sierra (which had working external CAC reader). I know that HS and Mojave have built in support, if you have a DOD CAC, try militarycac.com for more info on getting it to work.

Not supported.
Well, this was working through High Sierra. When I installed Mojave on mine it stopped working. It was a pleasant surprise for me. I had mine dual booting Win10 where it works natively and on a whim installed the Thursby CAC software to see if it would work to access DoD sites and in the set-up the Thursby software saw the CAC reader under High Sierra.

is it possible to share your work, i will have this computer soon and i'm very interesting, sure the configuration will be different certainly but it's a good start.

I wish i could do it myself but i'm time limited with my work...

@phunguss

Could you list the link for the 1600x900 panel and the cable for it to work at this resolution? Is it much of a difference in quality?
I heard is a pretty involved process to replace the screen cable.
Also, how much you paid for the i7?
Thank you for the info

I don't have a link to the cable, the item I purchased on eBay was the entire upper panel assembly with LCD, camera, and cable attached. It may be easier to buy a broken laptop or one for parts and salvage the screen. FWIW, the 1600x900 matte panel has terrible contrast ratio. Here is one of the panels on eBay, but not the cable: 1600x900 HP 8470p HD+ LCD.

I paid $100 for my i7-3740qm in Dec 2016. I see they are around $80 now.

So i shouldn't upgrade it then?
It's a matter of preference. The glossy 1280x768 might look better, but I wanted higher resolution. The side displayport works fine, so if I want a higher resolution or want to watch a movie, its always better on an external.

Here is the type of product I bought on eBay to swap mine out: LCD Complete Screen Assembly Webcam Matte

I might just leave it as it is, I got this laptop for free and is plenty for what I use it. One more question, are you running TRIM on Mojave? If so, is it giving you any issues?

Yes, Trim is on, no issues that I am aware of. 500Gb SSD APFS, VPN/U-Torrent running all the time... offloading stuff to external drives, no issues.

Medium Type: Solid State
TRIM Support: Yes
Partition Map Type: GPT (GUID Partition Table)
S.M.A.R.T. status: Verified
