Hello,

This is my first hackentosh build and running into an issue where I cannot get past the the initial apple boot screen (Apple logo & status bar).

I have tried using the three different ASRock Bios available with no such luck
V1.10 - Status bar barley moves forward then stops and does nothing
V1.20 - Status bar will hit completion does nothing
V1.30 - Status bar will hit completion does nothing

Attempts using all three bios firmware options have been made using:
- the standard Mojave UniBeast boot drive
- A configured boot drive from a (I am supposing) similar ITX version of this motherboard found here https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/guide-asrock-z390-phantom-gaming-itx-ac-i9-9900k-rx-580.268992/

(so total of 6 attempts (in reality much more but I digress))

The standard boot disk works fine on an older machine I have so I KNOW it has to do with the MOBO/bios settings. I just don't know what the heck is going wrong...

If anyone has any suggestions for a relatively "problem free" MoBo I am all ears... I don't mind returning this and spending some extra $$, just needs to be able to run Mojave.

I'm not quite sure if this screen should come after the apple boot logo or before, but it ran thru a bit before giving me this screen. Something tells me the big circle with the line isn't a good thing :p

Attached is my plist as well as screen shots of what I am using to for kext and UEFI drivers.

Still not sure what I am doing wrong here, but I might just bite the bullet and get a MoBo that more users have had success w/ as there doesn't seem to be much support for this one :/

Use the forum Search tool to look for "still waiting for root device".

Thanks for the response P1LGRIM

So I saw your post here
"Still waiting for root device".
When booting from USB means that there is a problem finding a valid System folder to start up from on your USB flash drive.
This is usually because the flash drive is in a USB3 port.
If this is the case move it to a USB2 port, if it is already in a USB2 port move it to another and try again.
Repeat until you have tried all USB ports.
Use a USB2 flash drive.
If it still doesn't work you could try another flash drive.
Try connecting your USB flash drive using a USB2 hub.
You might also try enabling Legacy on your USB3 ports in your BIOS settings.
Set XHCI Handoff to Enabled in your BIOS settings.
Ensure that Fast Boot is not enabled in your BIOS settings.
macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 requires a new USB Port Limit patch.

With the DC7900 you must boot with -f UseKernelCache=No or you will lose access to your USB ports and network.

As far as the bios settings are concerned everything is as you have stated.

I am using a USB 2.0 drives in designated USB2.0 slots (in reality only one of the two designated slots works/see the drive on boot up).

I suppose my most pressing question would be if this screen "still waiting for root device." comes before or after the apple boot logo? When using this boot drive, no apple logo boot status bar appears before this. However, when using the other boot drives I have made I ONLY get the apple logo boot screen and never get to the "still waiting for root device" screen.

Again, any "suggestion" for a good z390 board is appreciated as I cannot find any other info on this board except for the ITX version but I am suspicious that those confgis will not work as the firm releases do not match up...

At Clover Boot Screen select Options > PCI devices > USB Ownership and USB Injection.
May require USBInjectAll.kext in /EFI/CLOVER/kexts/Other/.
May require XHCI-unsupported.kext in /EFI/CLOVER/kexts/Other/. (Click Download repository).

Boot in verbose mode.

I have no personal experience 0f Z390hardware so can offer no advice.

Hmm, so my currently installed drives are two m.2 NVMe (Samsung and an Intel) drives but is I would think this issue still pertains to the USB drive as I have not yet selected any drive to mount onto yet? Searching "virtual IORetrun IONVMeController", does pull up some things but I didn't find an actual solutions to it,
Edit V2 - now it is hanging on "virtual IOReturn IONVMeController: :CreateSubmissionQueue(unit16_t, uint8_t)::2777:SQ index=1 entrysize=64". Thumbnail updated to reflect this.

You have fix the problem ??

Yes.
I bought a new motherboard .

Following someone else’s golden build is what I should of done right of the bat (what I’m doing now). I tried to save a few buck by going with that motherboard, which cost me more “money” in wasted time than it saved.

I had a hell of a time getting it working but I'm successfully up and running on this motherboard. Here's my EFI in case anyone out there is still working on this board.
