[SUCCESS] Old Hack, New Tricks - Mojave on GA-Z77X-UP5 TH System

Any audio pops on wakeup?

None that I have encountered, but I use an (old) iMac USB sound dongle for output. It's a hold-over from an older OS where the audio kext patches kept getting over-written. I do lose system sound output from time to time (no volume at OS level; no alert sounds; but iTunes audio still works among other things) but simple reboots fix it. It doesn't happen frequently enough for me to chase it down on a box that's primarily a server for me at home anymore...

any chance you guys have bios setting pictures? I have the same MB and was struggling to get the machine to boot with USB external drives connected (stuck on splash screen, not even clover). Now I turned of Legacy USB Support in Bios and my machine starts, but I have issues like OSX booting slow (appleusbhxciport and appleusbhostport errors on -v) and my drives disconnecting while the computer sleeps (always popping up with the "this drive wasn't ejected properly everytime I turn it on).

Unfortunately, my BIOS isn't cooperating with taking screenshots at the moment. Bottom line for me -- set to Optimized Defaults and make just a couple tweaks as noted in the Tonymac Installation Guide (Gigabyte-specific BIOS page). That's how my machine has always run - sorry I wasn't more clear on that.

The only thing I did in my BIOS for this installation was the following as noted in my guide:
  • I put the USB installer in a front-of-case USB3 port and rebooted. I used DEL to get into my BIOS and tweaked a couple settings: (a) I made sure that CSM was disabled; (b) I made the built-in Intel Graphics (IGP) the first thing to boot for graphics instead of Auto; (c) I cleared out everything from the Boot Order menu and left only the USB stick in my boot order. Then I saved settings and rebooted.
Hope this helps you!

@mickelsn thank you for your guide! I also have a GTX 650 TI but have the UD5H version of your mobo. I was under the impression that I wouldn’t be able to update past Sierra until I got a new graphics card after reading posts on here about the 650 TI not working. Did something change in recent months that got this card working in HS/Mojave?

I’ve had no issues. System shows the board as Metal being supported, macOS GPUFamily1 v4. Good luck!

HD4000 IGPU support Hardware JPEG decoding, you don't need to install NoVPAJpeg.kext

set the IGPU to connector-less mode, ig-platform-id=0x1620007

Here are my bios settings, 1/2 typed 1/2 pics( too much to type on them :) )
I'm skippping the overclock pics as they're specific to my system. I may have the disconnect when sleep issue but its rare I have externals plugged in, sounds more software ( os, whatever ) than bios.
All my usb ports are working with a fresh multibeast install with the settings that mickelsn listed, except 3rd party sata as I'm not using those ports.

UPDATE: some games were crashing, I removed WhateverGreen.kext and crashing stopped, video still works with hd4000, rx570 and NoVPAJpeg. Audio tends to cut out every 12 to 30 seconds, inspired by @micklesn I picked up a super cheap usb audio thing, simpler than figuring it out.

skipping things like whether numlock is enabled and which boot option disk

That was the 750 Ti, I know because I had to let go of my faithful and silent friend for an AMD to get to mojave land

Worked like a charm to update my system to Mojave. Thanks!
