[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

What is the current preferred SMBIOS? MacMini 8,1? iMac 18,3?

  • Do both network ports work individually (one by one)?
  • If i211 port does not work by itself, have you installed FakePCIID, FakePCIID_Intel_GbX, and SmallTreeIntel82576?
  • If both ports are working, did you create a bonded network from Preferences --> Network? If so, please upload a screenshot.

After making link aggregation, i1211 can't get the status. Do you have this problem?

Has anyone encountered this problem or have any suggestions for @htw7448?

This is happening on a Gigabyte Z390-Gaming SLI V1.0 with i7-9700K and RX 580.

I found one hint:
"Awesome! If you ever doubt FakeSMC.kext's validity - look for the DSMOS has arrived message. If you don't see it - that usually means FakeSMC either isn't installed, or isn't loading.
Glad you fixed it though man :)"

Maybe my fakeSMC is nt working correctly and because of this my HID detection is lost in space. Gonna give the x99 smc a try to overcome this 1 minute delay on boot. Console message is 4 rows of " some number IOUSBHOSTHIDDevice: IOUSBHostDevice::start: unable to start IOHIDDevice.

Next 2do is looking after DSMOS arrived in bootlog. If not change to X99 SMC.

Hey @CaseySJ ... just returned today from my trip, and have a strange situation:

My graphics card is running at 127 Celsius degrees, and noticed that their fans are not spinning. Is that anything I can do? I'm connected to my monitor trough Display port

They spin when is computer is booting, but stops when mojave loads.

This sound nasty, mine works flawless.

Doublecheck your BIOS, Vega works natively on Mojave. Post your config.plist I'll have a look, check the Vega fan fix in the last chapter of @CaseySJ guide.

What Vega do you have, which pci slot and brand+model?
Did you try it on Windows?

My Vega is: Sapphire Nitro+ Raeden Rx Vega 64 8GB

Meanwhile, I noticed that the temperature info should be wrong for sure, because it is the only value that does not change on HS Monitor. No mater what is always 127. So sensor or reading should not be working.

Also as suggested by @CaseySJ, I took a quick look into the guide from @jaymonkey (https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/...vega-power-and-fan-control-properties.267519/)
There I read:

'Note: Some Vega cards (such as Sapphire Nitro +) have a custom VBIOS that supports a Zero Fan mode (Fan will not run when Vega is in idle mode) users of these cards have reported that the Fan(s) works as expected OOB so there is no need for this fix. It should also be noted that these cards do not support the use of a SoftPowerPlayTable as such this fix or the use of the VGTab kext may not work as expected, however it is still recommended to install WhatEverGreen which will ensure that the Vega has the correct APCI identity and to fix the black screen on boot issue.'

So since my card is exactly this one, I still don't know exactly what it means. Also don't know why temperature is not displayed correctly on HS Monitor.

I Have installed Lilu and WhatEverGreen at L/E

Later, when at home, I will perform a stress test to graphics card to see if I can make fans spin. Also at that time will upload my config.plist

Thanks.

@ummario,

In the last day or so I've found out from other users that all though the Sapphire Nitro + card has a Zero Fan mode, it can still use the SoftPowerPlayMethod ... I have since updated the note in the guide to reflect this and it seems the issue is more prominent on some non-Sapphire cards that use a custom VBIOS.

Have you tried using HWMonitorSMC2 to monitor the Vega ?... its detailed in the same guide ... I think it's currently the only Monitoring app that works well with Vega GPU's. You must remove the old Monitoring App, FakeSMC and sensor plugins and use the ones that come with HWMonitorSMC2.

Cheers
Jay

Thank you very much @jaymonkey for this valuable information. I will try it later and let you know something!

I have the normal Vega but was having problems with the Kext. This fix worked though (see FCP fix in install guide partially pasted below )
Seems to work best with iMacPro 1,1. I just did the heaven benchmark, and the Vega fan ramps up but than goes down to normal RPM after being finished :

If you're a Final Cut Pro X user, the build configuration presented in this guide causes FCPX to crash on startup. A relatively simple solution is provided here. This will place the iGPU in headless mode, so a discrete graphics card (PCIe GPU) is necessary for connecting your monitor. Use Clover Configurator 5.3.2.0 or later to make these changes to your config.plist:
