Installing GC-Alpine Ridge Thunderbolt 3 card in Asus Maximus Hero 9

I don't know as I would turn it off before installing to test drivers/kexts. Try it now that you have it install. I'd clear kext cache with the following:
Code:
sudo kextcache -system-prelinked-kernel
sudo kextcache -system-caches
Rebooted to a black screen. HD led blinking erratically.

OK! Looks like the driver is a problem for hackintoshs. Turn Gatekeeper back on to keep it from loading. You may have to boot from the USB Installer.

You mean the VRS8 driver? I had uninstalled it prior to clearing the cache.

Hmmm. Using your USB Installer, boot into your Recovery partition and run Disk Utility > First Aid on your drive.

I did a hard shut down, unplugged the power chord for a minute and everything's back up and running....except VRS8. I wonder if @joevt was talking about the actual details in the driver info.plist that need to be changed to force the OS to recognize the unit.

EDIT - I'm referring to this thread which deals with a similar issue on another thunderbolt audio interface.

Any chance you ever figured this out?

I have an Alpine Ridge card installed on an Asus Prime z270a which works fine in Windows 10, and actually works with the VRS-8 in Windows (even though windows thunderbolt isn't currently supposed to be working), but I can't seem to get the VRS8 to show up in Sierra 10.12.6.
Do you have multiple VRS8 to try using more than one? I have two and have been looking into using TB on Windows with it.

When I tried, Windows 10 driver recognized the VRS while connected via TB3. The Windows driver is out now, so you should have no issue. That said, I did not attempt to run any DAW on Win, as I don't use Windows at all for audio.

Unfortunately, they only have beta drivers out for Windows currently. I do have those drivers, but my current motherboard doesn't have thunderbolt. They use a PCIe card for use of only one interface at one time. It's promising if Windows recognizes it when it's plugged in through Thunderbolt.

I just am curious if anyone has been able to tether two viaThunderbolt on Windows and had then both work at the same time.

I'm pretty sure that they backtracked and said that the only option available on Windows will be specific to HDMI, but we obviously don't take anyone's word for it. My guess is that if you can get it going via TH3 on Windows and the OS sees the card, the same Win driver, which is a PCI driver, should work for both. I'm currently running the damn thing on macOS using the HDMI/proprietary connection without a single issue. I have an Apollo Twin on the TH3 right now and using Apollo just for a few plug-ins here and there, but recording everything through the VRS-8.

What's unfortunate is they've had this interface out for almost a year and have only released Mac drivers...

I was actually able to test my theory on a MBP in Bootcamp with TB, but it only recognized one. I guess I'll just have to wait to see if they figure it out...
