I'm wondering, I've got the same CPU and cooler (as well as case and fans), running at stock clocks of max 4.7GHz but running into 98ºC. I'm running ASUS Maximus Hero X like Stork's build. Since this was my first build after 15 years, I guess I might used not enough thermal paste?! Maybe you or someone else have any clue? I'm really unsure about the thermal paste, I did not cover the whole lid of the i7, just but a ~1,2cm long stripe in the middle and mounted the fan. In idle I got around 32ºC.

Ehh... If I were buying a new interface, it wouldn't be Thunderbolt unless I were using a genuine Mac or a Windows machine. Wait until NAMM is over and see if anyone (Focusrite included) puts out a new USB 3.1 or Ethernet-connected box. I'm only doing this thing because I blasted a load on an overkill UAD Apollo 8 Quad, so I'm locked into Thunderbolt. I use only Apple Thunderbolt cables and dongles. -And they work perfectly in Windows 10, too: Both TB ports work in Windows 10 along with hot-swap.

Important note: Unless someone here has cracked the diabolical Thunderbolt mystery with a patch, you'll only be able to use your Thunderbolt device if you power up the device before powering-up your computer: If you switch-off your Thunderbolt interface, you will not get it back unless you turn off the computer, turn on your device, and restart your computer.

For some, this is a deal-breaker, also because you can only use 1 Thunderbolt port and daisy-chaining doesn't work. Use an interface via the Intel Ethernet, USB 3, or USB C that is native/onboard the MOBO. You'll thank me later. LMK what you end up doing.

Thanks @jiffyslot for your advice. I didn't know about Ethernet audio interfaces! It seems that the existing ethernet interfaces are unfortunately too expensive for my budget though . But I'll take your advice and wait until NAMM is over. If I'm correct Focusrite released their USB Clarett last year at NAMM, so it seems unlikely that they'll be releasing a USB 3 / C Clarett this year, but we never know!

As for the "diabolical Thunderbolt mystery", I'm aware I'd have to power up the device before powering-up the computer etc. If I ever took the Thunderbolt way. But I'm not sure I'd find this really annoying. My hack is dead silent and since sleep / wake is functioning perfectly, I plan on keeping it powered on (almost) all the time.

Just in case you didn't know it, USB 3 has no benefit over USB 2 in terms of latency, but just in of the capability to handle more simultaneous audio streams.

I don't know, but I haven't seen a USB-C capable interface on the market. In my opinion the good old USB 2 is still more than powerful enough, it's the drivers that really make the difference.

You will find that the "powered on from boot" interface will actually break sleep. Mine sleeps once and after I wake it, it refuses to sleep again unless I power the interface off. Interface is a MOTU 828 ES.

That I ignored... Is this a problem relative to your specific motu interface, or would it be the same with any thunderbolt device?

I have seen several others complain of this with other brands of interfaces. I do believe it's one of the many quirks with "Hackintosh" Thunderbolt. I just turn mine off when done but you have to flip it back on and reboot when your ready to use it again.

I really want to try the Titan Ridge card with the SSDT that floating around here.
