[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

@Racke I am now a prou "owner" of a iMac18,3 lol. I have FCP and preview (amazingly fast) I don't see the iGPU in Graphics and it shows weirdly in GeekBench as Intel HD Graphics CFL (Compact Fluorescent Light? lol)

As long as it is functioning, I don't care what it looks like but Before I did all this with @CaseySJ build I saw it as UHD630 and got same geekbench scores he did (+/- normal). Hmmm
Still this thing is amazingly fast. I'm a happy Camper. Thanks to all who contribute and make this possible. I learned a lot on this build too!

So let me give it a try, what steps do I need to take to get both GPU's working without breaking the preview and FCP?

Follow the instructions in Racke post #304. Then you have to enable internal graphics in the BIOS. You should be good to go.

Separate topic. I am noticing that some of my USB-3 ports default to USB-2 speeds. I think it is a matter of what the OS picks up as the controller. I have a MBPro 2016 and an OWC TB3 doc. Sometimes the USB ports on it do the same thing. Especially when there is a virtual USB Hub involved. I have my USB C Motherboard breakout cable arriving today. I will report back on that. With the TB-3 activated on the MB I am not to worried about USB 2 vs 3 for what I will be doing. Although my Time Machine disk will be USB.

I'm also using the Fractal Design R6 (without the USBc front port). Can you share how you connect the 3 stock fans that came with the case? (2 front plus the rear)
Did you use fractal design case fan hub and do you see all the fan in the bios?
As it is, I connect the rear fan to SYS_FAN1 header, the 2 front fans is connected to the fractal fan hub which then connected to the CPU_OPT header. The 2 front fan is spinning but I'm not seeing them in the bios.

I must be doing something wrong FCP is working but not preview or I get both to work but my system doesn't show the iGPU

I am away from the Hackintosh right now. When I get home I’ll upload my zipped EFI folder. My BIOS is the default Casey built from this thread.

I'm using an Alpenföhn Brocken 3 Black Edition with 2 fans. Currently the fans are connected as follows:

Gigabyte Designare Z390:
  • CPU_FAN: Alpenföhn fan 1
  • CPU_OPT: Fractal Design PWM Fan Hub
  • SYS_FAN1/SYS_FAN2: not connected
  • SYS_FAN3_PUMP: not connected

Fractal Design PWM Fan Hub (see manual page 7)
  • 3-pin connectors: connectected to the 3 Define R6 case fans
  • 4-pin connector (input): CPU_FAN
  • 4-pin connector: Alpenföhn fan 2

I was thinking to get some cable extensions, because currently the cables are too short to connect to SYS_FAN1/SYS_FAN2 and SYS_FAN3_PUMP. Hence I cannot see the individual case fans in the bios.

nvm I got both to work with the iGPU activated by those steps, without adding anything in devices:
GFX0 to iGPU patch, IntelGFX 0x0, removed the id-platform-id and now my system shows the intel UHD 630 too and both FCP and Preview are working although it crashes when benchmarking the iGPU I have no idea why..

In config.plist I've changed:
  • Devices/IntelGFX = 0x0 (old: 0x3E9B8086)
  • Graphics/FB Name = Orinoco (old: empty)
  • Graphics/ig-platform-id = 0x (old: 0x)
In the Bios the IGPU is enabled.

Result: FCP still crashes.

You need to configure your iGPU as "headless" if you want to get hardware acceleration of it. Then you can not connect a monitor to it and it will not show up in system report any more. Just look at my post. Hope it helps.

Curious if you bring up Geekbench, does your iGPU show up there? Mine did, not named correctly but I couldn't benchmark it. At this point I'm calling it all good and commencing to use it. Amazon just dropped off my USB-C MB adaptor so have that to install. My final thing will be two SATA SSD's in a Raid 0 for a scratch disk for video editing. @tonymacx86 you and this board are awesome.
