An iDiot's Guide To Lilu and its Plug-ins

Both are working.

I followed this guide and its worked multiple times. In fact, I did 2 changes yesterday, 14,2 to 8,1 and then 8,1 to 18,3 with no problems. For me the important part was to login into icloud and delete the old versions (that worked), prior to starting (per the instructions). I've used this process on my previous build, that was an H77N, and it worked on it as well.

I don't use Ethernet, so I made sure my Wifi = en0 using the techniques in the guide.

Have you posted your build description anywhere? Perhaps someone can take a look at yours and provide some help.

Mine is listed here...its not a Z board, but shows the steps I went through.

Also, if you have the ability to get to a DGPU, I recommend it. My RX570 board is great...quiet and the fans don't run all that much during day-to-day activities.

@thanhliem,

From my experience the BCM94352Z which is the M.2 version of the BCM94352 can be quite problematic depending on the firmware that is embedded on the card. The only version of this card I had any success with is the official DELL version (DW1560) which can only be purchased direct from DELL and are very hard to find these days. Unfortunately there are many cheap China clones of the BCM94352Z (DW1560) available on eBay that have an alternate firmware version and it is these clone cards that can cause problems.

I gave up with the BCM94352Z / DW1560 cards a long time ago, its just not a good card and can cause a lot of issues on certain system when running windows. I swapped out all my BCM94352Z / DW1560 cards for BCM43602 / DW1830 which is a much better card that supports BT4LE and is natively supported by MacOS.

I wrote about some of the issues with BCM94352Z / DW1560 cards and how i changed to DW1830 in this post :-

@Scott1204,

Sorry Scott its not a problem that i've personally run into as I don't watch any DRM content on my Hacks although I am aware of the issue and as you say, for a lot of users it does seem to necessitate having to choose between either having QuickSync working with the IGPU Enabled or being able to play DRM content via dGPU with the IGPU disabled.

In the past i think the solution was to use the Shiki Lilu plugin which has since been incorporated into WhatEverGreen ... so that is where i would start ... try working through the Shiki FAQ (its in the WEG Manual) and see if it makes any sense, however its not made clear just what WEG does automatically and what it does not with regards to the Shiki so it might be worth posting on the WhatEverGreen support thread for some advice ...

I don't have any DRM content so i cant really test it myself but if you manage to get somewhere please post back here so we can update the guide and help others ...

Cheers
Jay

Thanks Jay, I tried the tweaks for platform ID and it made the difference! For the first time, I'm getting hardware acceleration AND DRM playback for downloaded iTunes movies. Final Cut appears to be running well.

Streaming iTunes movies doesn't work yet but this is a big step in the right direction. Don't mind downloading.

Will need more testing to confirm everything is stable but your tips were really helpful. Thanks again for the effort putting this together, really helped make sense of the graphics setup in my machine.

Hi @jaymonkey

I use BCM94352Z from Dell XPS :banghead:

Excellent guide! Thank you for your time to collect all this knowledge.
I was familiar, largely, with Lilu and it's kexts but you gave me new ideas, tips and tooling.

AWESOME!
Thanks a lot!

Trying to go for "headless platformID" solution on ivybridge with DGPU :Nvidia 660Ti

with HD-4000 IGPU PlatformID's = 0x01620006 or 0x01620007
FBPatcher
says : Model(s) Unknown
(My SMBIOS is imac13,2 in clover)
it gives the following values:
  • index = 0
  • bus id = 0x00
  • pipe = 0
  • type = dummy
  • flags = 0x00000040
is there something wrong to try with these values?

(my current config.plit attached, still with id:0x0162000A for now)
also i'm using these hotpatch-patches:

should i modify something?Capture d’écran 2019-01-11 à 02.38.53.pngCapture d’écran 2019-01-11 à 02.38.41.png
