No working at all... Just freezes the system
You need using boot args to generate detailed panic record or verbose system log. See post #1 for details on debug problem.

Hi. I have a DW1820A, my system boots to the black screen unless I disable the card in the BIOS.
I installed your IO80211Family.kext into /L/E (together with AirportBrcmFixup) but it still booting to black screen.

Should I replace the IO80211Family.kext in /S/L/E instead? I'm a little conscious of touching /S/L/E

Thanks

user's responsibility to accomplish the patching. Read post #1for detailed info.

Thanks for quick reply. I've never patched a kext so it's not 100% clear to me how to do it. I'll try to research more. Thanks.

No you need to completely delete AirPorBrcmNIC-MFG from in /S/L/E and then Deleting IO80211Family.kext from /S/L/E as well and then Put this IO80211Family.kext into /S/L/E in its place. The freeze your getting is because of a plugin named AirPortBrcmNIC.kext that's found inside of IO80211Family.kext in ElCapitain and Above. Just follow my directions and the system will boot and swap out the IO80211Family kext with the one from theis post for the card to function. You can't put this kext in Library/Extensions because too many other kext rely on it to be in the System folder

Thanks for that, it does make sense. I'll give it a try. Thank you.

How has been your experience? Have you done this method?

Thank you for asking. I'm actually sourcing a cheap DW1560 as I'm not really comfortable changing S/L/E and many users report instability with the DW1820a.

I'll see how it goes with that one when it arrives (as it has got its own set of problem dual booting with Windows) and if I come back to the DW1820a I will try this method.

Thank you again for your time, the help is appreciated.

Hey put the kexts into /Library/Extensions all of them along with IO80211FamilyV2 from /S/L/E and then remove it from there, that could be the issue you're having.

I tried your instructions from your archive and was able to boot successfully and the card seemed to work OK.
However the system became very unstable. I was unable to update to 10.14.2 and also started getting random reboots.

I had to reverse the patch (even though I am no longer able to re-enable SIP protection), then I could update to 10.14.2 successfully and no more random reboots.

I think this card is a little too unstable on my laptop.

Unfortunately I bought a BCM94352Z but it's the model with one notch only so it does not fit my slot :banghead: . I'll see if I can self drill the second notch, which looks very tricky. This WiFi replacement is turning up to be a nightmare.

What's your key notch?

I tried the DW1820a again with the patch but with a slightly different configuration:

- I did not remove IO80211FamilyV2.kext from /S/L/E
- I installed the 3 kexts in /L/E instead and rebuilt all caches

The system is much more stable. I still get the occasional KP in IONetworkingFamily often on shutdown and when WiFi state changes (i.e. connecting to a different network, sleep etc.)

KP report attached.
