pastrychef's Asus ROG Strix Z370-G Gaming (WI-FI AC) build w/ i9-9900K + AMD 6600 XT

I think some people had success with Apple Wi-Fi/Bluetooth cards in M.2 slots on Gigabyte motherboards. I don't know if it's a just a that particular motherboard or if it's consistent across all Gigabyte motherboards. But, yes, it's a potential problem.

It might be worth mentioning that any of the Z390 that have built-in Intel wireless, that wireless won't be useable on a Hackintosh.....and therefore, it must be disabled or removed. That is also true of some Z370 boards (I had a Gigabyte Z370 Gaming 5 and it had Intel wireless, which I removed).

Just something to keep in mind. If you can get a Z370 or Z390 without built-in wireless, it might be cheaper, and in the long run, easier on you....

do you remember what the motherboard is about? ... for me this was the only thing that made me come back to the z370 ... or do you have some knowledge if the pci-e alternative is recognized in bios, meaning that the apple keyboard and trackpad will work in bios ... I use the apple keyboard and I do not want to sit on the table with 2 keyboards and 2 mouse
@mm2margaret the question is also valid for you

thank you

I don't know if it works in BIOS. I didn't do the testing... I was just reading about some people who got the M.2 ports to work with Apple cards on Z390. Some motherboards seem to work and some not. I don't think I have seen any success stories with Asus Z390.

discouraging ... i do not like gigabyte but if i can use the old wifi / bt card i will change for that... :(
I do not want to throw the money out of the window like last time ... I have to collect as much information as to what can be done and what can not ... about nvram I do not trouble, as you said, will pass a while and the problem will be solve ... z390 has nvram in bios but for now we can not access it ...

Based on all the reviews, I already made up my mind that I would be delidding this thing. I knew that if I didn't, it would always be in the back of mind and I would eventually end up doing it anyway. I contemplated sending it off to professionals to do it, but after waiting so long for this CPU to be shipped, I really didn't want to ship it off and wait for delivery again. Plus, I trust my own workmanship more than handing it off to someone else. So, I did it myself...

Kids, don't try this at home!! It took me about 3.5 hours and lots of liquid metal. Liquid metal is used to break down the solder and soften it up. After applying the liquid metal, we have to let it sit for approx 15 minutes before we wipe it off and try to work off as much of the solder as we can. We repeat this process until all the solder is gone. I lost count of how many times I had to reapply liquid metal, but I'm guessing about 8 times.

I think I did a pretty darn good job. You can see the reflection of my iPhone camera in the last picture.

I ordered a copper IHS which is due to arrive on Wednesday. I want to do everything possible to keep this thing as cool as possible.

As tempted as I am to install this thing, I don't want to have to redo it all again in 2 days, so no testing yet. I'll be updating this post with more details when the copper IHS arrives.

*Disclaimer: I don't recommend anyone do this!! In fact, I highly advise against doing this yourself. I take no responsibility if you try and ruin your CPU!!

Update Nov 21:

My Rockit Cool Copper IHS arrived. Here's the copper IHS and some very preliminary benchmark results:

Hi, I have some problem with the 9900K's IGPU
Would you share 9900k's UHD630 proerties keys or just the platform-d and device-id?

Make thanks

"Intel HD Graphics CFL" is correct. CFL = Coffee Lake.

Emmm...
I think something bad happed.

When I unplug from Rx580 and use the onboard HDMI (Using 9900k's UHD630)
There was no signel and the system begin to reboot. I dont need what happed. I have attach the plist and EFI.
Would you help me to fix this?

And by the way. What's the app you used for checking the Hardware acceleration?

You are not supposed to get any output from the UHD 630 because it is set up to be "headless".

If you want to use it with a monitor, you have to change ig-platform-id to 3E9B0007 and device-id to 3E9B0000. You also need to change SMBIOS to iMac18,1.

If you have an RX 580, you should not do this.

You can use VideoProc to check if acceleration is enabled.
