Hello,

I've had my hackintosh up and running smoothly, with no issues whatsoever for the past 4 years. It is still running 10.10.1 because it worked for me (if it ain't broke..) I haven't had any problems with any of my current/new software or hardware until now. All of a sudden, my whole machine shuts off. All of the other electronic devices using the same surge protector were all fine! Nothing else shut off!!! Instant Panic.

I power it back up (whew) and it happens again (damn it!). I took the cover off the tower to feel inside, it's a bit warm, but nothing extreme. Neither me or my friend heard the fans spinning loudly either. I let it cool off anyways and try to power it on, nothing. It doesn't turn on, I jump start it with the power button on the MotherBoard and it turns on just fine with no crash... but the Ethernet doesn't work (As I've been diagnosing it for the past 2 hours, sometimes the power button on the tower works and other times I have to jump start it with the button on the Mother Board).

I take it apart and clean out the fans (I'll admit, it was pretty dirty) and graphics card plug everything back in and try to boot it up. Still no internet. I plug the same Ethernet cable into my smart TV and Netflix, Hulu, etc works. So its not the cable, just to be sure I tried another cable with the same result... At this point I'm starting to worry.

My first Ethernet port was toasted during an electrical storm, so I had to rework my configuration to enable the 2nd Ethernet port. I've been using that port for at least 2 years now with no issues, up until about 2 weeks ago. Sometimes my computer would disconnect from the internet while everything else on wifi worked just fine, I didn't really think much of it at the time. It was just a sudden 30 second lapse of connection when it would occur, until now when it just won't work at all.

The Ethernet tab under Network Settings says "Status: Cable Unplugged" but its plugged in!!! I try to set a static IP address, still no connection. I start deleting the network kexts, rebuilding/recreating in the extension folder, reinstalling the same kext i was using previously, still no luck! I try other kexts, same thing!! ARGHHH!!!

When I check my System Information>Hardware> Ethernet Cards I do not see any information anymore, I'm instead shown this message "This computer does not appear to have any PCI Ethernet cards installed" wtf?

- Is it possible that my second Ethernet port has also failed..? If so, how can I fix it?
- Could the system have possibly overheated (even though it didn't feel that way) and some how shorted out the Ethernet port?
- I do not have a modem other than the one supplied by my ISP, could the modem be at fault?
- Is an external/internal Ethernet Card an option?
- USB Ethernet..?

I'm at my wits end and extremely exhausted after working a ton of doubles at work (i've lost track of how many!!). I do not have a wifi card installed, so I have no access to the internet at all on my hackintosh and it's my main source of entertainment/work device.

Time for a new NIC.

Network Interface Card.

You can install one in a PCI-e x1 slot.

Im an IT noob sorry and thanks!
Is there a particular one that I need for my MB?

GA-Z97X-UD5H-BK

Or will any PCI card work?
Also, after installing it on the MB, will I need to install some Kexts?
Network Interface Card.

You can install one in a PCI-e x1 slot.

One more note, it's not Windows 10 compatible if you dual boot. There are Windows 7 drivers for it.

I dont! Mac only. Thats great to know though
